Yeah, I'm not from NOLA. I'm from down the bayou. It's pronounced tra-Hahn (very little n if any). I've actually looked into it. Original french spelling was something like Tra'ahn according to some book my grandmother had.

Aucoin, Bienvenu, Boudreaux, and Juneau are misspelled.

And Pitre is pronounced "Pete", the "re" is almost always silent in French.

And I don't know how you get "fo-shay" out of Faucheaux.

I see my family name on there but we aren't Cajun. We came directly from France and settled in New Orleans 1790s.

I pronounce it like the 2nd way. Most from the N.O. area did as well. It wasn't until getting to LSU and meeting some Acadiana baws that I heard the 1st way. It sort of changed my nickname.

What about Delaune pronounced De-long? Where the heck did the "g" come from?

That's very true.

I was dividing up a list of people to call and a guy from Lafayette corrected me on the pronunciation of a name. I asked if he was sure because I knew someone else with that last name. The Lafayette guy said the person I knew must be from Lake Charles.

Can't remember what the name was, just that it's pronounced one way in Laffy and one in Lake Charles.

If you read the Reddit post, the guy works in New Orleans and got this to help him get acclimated to the area. It was provided to him by his work place
