In my experience, there are three forms of pronunciation for most French words in Louisiana.
1) The original Parisian or Cajun French pronunciation
2) The English pronunciation
3) Some combination of the above used by locals.

2 and 3 tend to vary by region depending upon how heavily they are influenced by French or English speakers.

Are you related to any Verdins, Billiots, Dardars, Verrettes, Naquins, Gregoires, or Corteaus?

If so you may be related to the Native American and white French settlers of Terrebonne. They have an amazing and well documented history.
