LSUNurse, loooking for answers for what can be wrong with my 2 year old

Lately he has been in la la land. He is in space. And now he won't do simple tasks. He flips out of you change his diaper, put him in a car seat, ask him to play in his room, etc. And he won't budge if you tell him to do something. He will just freeze. It don't matter how much you yell, he won't budge. And he will fight and fight if you try to move him when he's spaced out. He will just stand in his room in one spot for 45 min. He recently had a 2 week sickness. Dont know if something happened with his brain or what. Is he autistic? He's our foster child who we were about to adopt. I'm having doubts. He was fine up until a month ago. He acted weird the last time he got sick, but this is dragging out. We have taken him to Dr's many times but no answers. We are taking him today to Akron children's hospital to try to get a cat scan done and blood work.
Any help would be HUGELY appreciated!

It's called the terrible 2s for a reason. All kids do this

Sounds like a classic case of terrible twos to me.
But, if you are that concerned, no harm in having a doctor look at him.
Good luck either way.

Is there a medicine that you give him daily?

Autism or Aspergers is what comes to mind, but I'm no pediatrician.
But also he may just be starting to understand that defiance is fun.

Have you taken him to a child development doctor?

Have they ruled out seizures?

wish i could help, but many of the signs/symptoms are vague and nondescript of an actual illness... trust the physicians and let them do their thing... hope you get good news...

Start with a pediatric neurologist and go from there.

Sounds like he needs to be evaluated for autism. Sorry man.
The inability to follow simple directions and getting violent when you try to move him or do simple things are a classic marker for being on the autism spectrum.

No, the staring off into space for 30 minutes or longer is a bit alarming. Might want to check with a doctor. Does the kid talk st all?

one of the pro's of adopting.

Have you had his hearing checked? Maybe the lack of understanding what you are trying to tell him had him frustrated and acting out.
That's all I got besides terrible twos, except that my kids terrible twos were delayed until three.

When he is "in space" does he make any type of noises or movements? Does he flap or flail his arms? Does he do any kind of spinning? Is he verbal at all?

could be Autism...or just him being a child...but the standing in one spot for 45mins seems very strange. That isnt normal. Good that you are taking him in to get checked out by specialists. Good luck to you and your family.

Could be a slight exaggeration...
