Dequincy is the place to be.

Ok, maybe not so much. And definitely avoid North Lake Charles.

Just moved here at the end of December. The housing market is outrageous right now, but other than that I really like the place. A stone's throw from big lake and there are plenty of opportunities to hunt and fish around. The town itself is also pretty cool, I came from Baton Rouge and was tired of how big BR has got, so I am really loving it out here.

Lots of good things happening there. Good parks, good restaurants, good schools, good outdoors close, golf, hunting, etc.

Stay West of Ryan and South of 2-10 if you can afford it.

What are you getting out of Lafayette that you can't get out of LC that's so great?

What area is the job in? How long of a commute is acceptable to you?

I have a feeling stout will have some better info for you as well, with his line of work.

Southernelite is pretty spot on.

Tons of parks around the area, sportsman paradise with just about any hunting/fishing you could want. Id say you could go as far east as Kirkman st with getting into the dumps to bad. Definitely stay south of the 210 loop. Are you buying a house or renting?

Also, if you have kids: try to live Barbe High School district. If you cant get there then i would go private or move out to Sulphur/Moss Bluff/Iowa. They are too terrible of a commute

don't live there but come through town often for work. You're close to saltwater fishing, the casinos are actually legit(laberge and nugget), and the restaurant scene seems to have improved.

I'll be renting for a few years because I'm just getting out of school. My job is in the downtown area. I wouldn't mind a 20 min commute.

I'd live downtown then.

Eat at Luna's everyday. It's awesome.

Ate in LC for lunch a couple years ago and their "Shrimp Poboy" was boiled shrimp on French bread.

Don't know, it was bad enough for not to investigate further.
