re: Darrell's Lake Charles

Lived in LC for a year and a half. LC does not deserve the hate it gets on here. Especially Darrell's. It may not be a "traditional" poboy, but it's still damn good.
When I lived in LC, someone told me that Darrell started selling poboys as a front for his bookie operation. I wonder if that's true.

re: Louisiana vs. Cajun Land
Posted by drunkgerberbaby on 3/2/21 at 4:11 pm to Clyde Tipton
Usually use Louisiana, but we tried Cajun Land for a few boils last year. Everyone really enjoyed it.
I usually never add salt when I use Louisiana, but I did have to add a little salt with Cajun Land. Maybe 1/3 of a container.

Thanks for the recs. I went off Cajun Ninja's recipe. It came out thicker than it looked in his video. Great comfort food for the cold weather.
Trying to tackle some simple recipes and boost my confidence in kitchen.

Superior Seafood/Steakhouse in BR
Posted by drunkgerberbaby on 2/13/20 at 4:40 pm
Would Superior Seafood or Superior Steakhouse succeed in the old Galatoire's location on Perkins?
BR is so obsessed with Superior Grill I imagine a Superior restaurant would thrive at that location.

Weather permitting I plan on fishing Big Lake this weekend. Has the trout bite improved? Are there any trout in the north part of the lake?

It's Cajun Chili's, but it's a decent spot for a burger and beer.

re: What is the bestplace to live in louisiana

It's such a subjective question man. I don't think there is a right or wrong answer. All depends on what you like/want from a place.
I've lived in Baton Rouge, Natchitoches, Lake Charles, New Orleans, and Covington. All of those towns have qualities I like, and I do not hate any of them. However, in my opinion the Northshore has been the best overall.

Yeah. It was decent bbq but it did not live up to the hype of the locals.

The area is not really a food destination but there are some solid restaurants.
Ridgewood BBQ is a bit of a drive but it has good bbq. Machiavelli's has some decent Italian. If you want something sweet, I enjoyed Blackbird Bakery.
If you're looking for things to do, I would recommend touring the NASCAR track, even if you aren't a fan it's an interesting facility. I'd also recommend a stroll down state street.
For beer, there's the Holston River Brewing Company and the Bristol Station Brews & Taproom. Honestly though, if you want breweries, I would recommend just making the drive to Asheville.
