St. Pat's area and Garden District are the best neighborhoods in LC, IMO. Don't listen to people telling you to only live south of 210.

The catfish sandwich is unreal too. They have right across the street from Mcneese campus now. Priced well too. Fed 20 peopls the other day for $75.00.

Back in the day, one of my roommates at LSU was from LC. Went to visit several times and ate there. Shits for real.

All depends on what activities you want to be involved in. I live in the Holmwood area just east of LC. Everything i do is right at my doorstep. Don't go out much, but hit the casino from time to time. Its about a 15 minute drive. Work in Sulphur, and it takes about 25 to get to my office.

I just accepted a job in LC. I've visited the area many times but I still don't know it very well. What advice/tips would you give to someone moving to that area?

Save up and buy a house on Big Lake. You will not regret the weekends there

LC is a lot nicer than many think. I was there last week and it has changed big time over the past 20 years. I even saw a yacht on the lake.

It's true. Texas has a big influence on LC, but I would say they have just as much of a cajun influence there, if not more. The accents are mostly country, or no accent at all.

People will go where the money is. Restaurants and nightlife will soon follow. There are a ton of concerts in LC. The Casinos or Civic center has something every week. The lake is awesome for the summer. Fishing/Duck Hunting are top notch.

yeah all the high end restaurant are drooling over the plant workers moving in....I hear Willie is playing at the civic center this weekend too

I'll give you Big Lake and duck hunting

ETA:

This is how I feel about south LA

Lafayette = smaller version of New Orleans
Lake Charles = smaller version of Baton Rouge

Lafayette/New Orleans fit me and my personality better

Yeah, all the oilfield baws in Lafayette are real cultured.

In sure the plant workers are what's keeping Mazen's, Harlequin, Calla, Vic & Anthonys, and Ember in business....

Lake Charles = you will have a great time visiting for a weekend going to the casinos, fishing, playing golf, hunting, boat riding, ect...

You will also have fun living there for a short period of time doing all of the above mentioned activities.

However, if you live there too long, it will get old because it's the same thing over and over again. The local gentlemen are degenerates of a different breed who like to fight in bars a lot. The local ladies are very slutty, trashy, and have babies at a young age without being married, which is great for a good time, not much else. Most people who love lake Charles are actually born and raised in lake Charles.

One last thing - it sucks that all of the scenery at the casinos and in downtown lake Charles are dominated by plants in the background. Plants are everywhere.

Kind of insulting to the people who grew up in LC, and married here don't you think? Born and raised here, as was my wife. I mean, she's not an "oilfield honey with oilfield money", but what do i know. I think you are going a little too far with the slut shaming. If your still going to bars every weekend after you graduate college, you are the degenerate.

This is from the guy who would "smash" Tara Reid...

I don't mean to offend you DrunkHat. I'm just sharing my experiences with the fine people of this thread. I should say, most of my experiences were going out and partying with the bar brawlers and sluts. I saw the same faces all the time. It is a small town, everyone knows everyone.

of course you are going to see the same people and honestly the guys that go to the same bars every weekend are trashy as shite.

and yellowfin...plant operators/non contractors are usually way way less trashy than oil field workers. think office guy vs rig labor. now the field construction guys are usually comparable to a roughneck.

I will say I still think Laffy is better than LC but not by much and your analogy that laffy is like Nola and LC like BR is spot on.

SFP has caught shite on here a ton of times by saying LC is a smaller BR. for some reason it offends the BR crowd.

OP look into the muellers lofts downtown. Close to good restraunts, nice gym is across the street, lots to do with a decent bar scene right that that attracts an older/non trashy crowd and will be right next to your work(close enough to walk prolly). Also easy on off the interstate and very little traffic right there. Pretty much the perfect place to live while young and single if you are looking to have a good time.
