if my understanding is correct... about the only things NOT "safe" from state budget cuts through previous legislation is health care and education

hence why they continue to get hammered

though someone with a better understanding of the state constitution can either confirm or correct me

No, you numbskull. But electing Vitter would mean not electing the idiotic socialist Democrat we have now. So there's that.

Well Jindal wasn't an idiotic socialist and look at the awesome shape we're in

there was no TOPS when i went to college.
not everybody is in need of a state funded 4 year degree. there are many high paying jobs in markets of need that do not require a degree...what they do require is mastery of a trade

safe spaces and arts degrees are not a good investment of public funds

You can get a ~30 on the ACT and not get any help from LSU. I realize it's a political game, but why would anyone with an ACT of say 22-30 stay instate if they're worried TOPs won't be there at any given time?

Well the joke's on him if that's the plan because Louisiana has a proud centuries old tradition of not giving 2 shits about education.

This, and what SFP said above, are very concerning.
With TOPS and scholarship money there was no way a top student could do better than to saty here in state for college, thus increasing the chance they would stay here afterwards and maybe help this state out.

If TOPS goes, no real reason not to leave the state. Good luck getting them to come back.

Agree totally. Kids go to college because its free. Half don't like putting in work, end up going get a business degree and not even using it. Undergrad degrees with exceptions of nursing and engineering have become worthless

Take that Bernie Sanders!!!!!! There's no such thing as a free lunch and the tax payers shouldn't be paying for education!!

Straight from the Obama Administration playbook

Shut down everything to make the pain felt to get an outcry of "give me my free stuff"

There's nothing to be angry about.

Those kids can get a part time job and pay for their tuition.

Or take out some loans. Move on. Life doesn't stop because your free tuition got cut off.

Just offer scholarships then, no reason for a blank check. If you're good enough to get out of state scholarships that make LSU the same relative price as an out of state school then you have a decision to make.

So there's that

We just finished 8 years of Jindal. We are facing a $2 billion deficit due to his shitty policies and "leadership"

What do you expect to happen?

It doesn't matter who the governor would be this year. It's a dire situation.

All everyone wants to do is point fingers at the other side and place the blame on the other party. It doesn't matter who is in charge.

It's why, after being a life long registered republican, I recently changed my part affiliation to "none"

This is ignorant bs. I have a history degree that was paid for by tops. Wanna know what I'm doing right now? Teaching our future generations. Degrees open doors for people. Without tops, some of our brightest students won't get the chance to succeed..you stop this program, kids go from potential doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers etc, to being stuck in the plants or McDonald's

I'm just saying. A lot of people who really hate democrats (I.e. Sanders who based his whole campaign around free education) also really hate this move. The hypocrisy is fantastic.

Full disclosure. I was an out of state student at LSU and am very independent because I dispise both parties.
