I disagree. I had a very meh ACT score but 3.9 GPA. My poor family was not going to pay for any prep course. I also finished my engineering degree with 3.5 which is not bad IMO. I've seen many students with higher ACT scores that simply do not flourish in college. I came from a poor family and wanted to make some $$$$ so I had no other choice.

With some effort you should be able to get a 24 ACT score. It's not that hard.

24 ACT score is 76 percentile for ALL students. Many of those don't go to college and just sign their name. If you cannot get that score, there should be a community college option, like the state of TN.

Top 90 percentile doesn't mean much when over 50 percent are applying to go to JuCo. Not to call somebody dumb because they did poorly on a test but I've taken the ACT 2 times and I think a 26 isn't out of reach for most potential college students.

I don't have tops and haven't used it. I also have worked and paid my way through school out of pocket and through loans the past 4-5 years. Loans that took time to apply and get approved for and money that took time and effort to gain. There is no part time job that gains you 5k in less than a month to continue to go to school this semester.

So you had TOPS available to you but chose not to use it? What are you dumb or something? Sure seems like you didn't make the cut for the free money.

Call me old all you want.Tthat's funny because you can call me boss if somehow you figure out how to navigate the daunting process of student loans and part-time jobs...

24 ACT

i'm pretty sure that's what i had... that or a 25.... and then 6 years later, i earned a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D)...

so basically, the ACT is not indicative of anything... there were valedictorians in my class that didn't amount to jack shite, whereas some of the lesser decorated grads actually have legit credentials.....

Why not just have a the available pool of TOPS money handed out like the normal admissions process? Some well rounded kids, some great GPA kids, some high test score kids...only give out what's available.

ETA: I was before TOPS. LSU had a shite load of students...TOPS should not equal LSU.

You shouldn't need a prep course to make a 24...

Exactly

I checked out one of those self ACT prep books from the library and half assed my way through the book. Made a 27. Can only imagine what I would have gotten if I took an actual prep course.
