Your point is a good one. Generalized. But good.

It doesn't matter who the governor would be this year. It's a dire situation.

it's a dire situation that has little to do with Jindal or JBE and everything to do with our demographics and shitty constitution

So, this happens 3 days before the start of a special session, just enough time for the legislators to get an ear full from their constituents before reporting Monday, they will have people begging for a tax increase

typical politics

Message TOPS payments stopped immediately due to state budget crisis by Lionnation1993 Agree totally. Kids go to college because its free. Half don't like putting in work, end up going get a business degree and not even using it. Undergrad degrees with exceptions of nursing and engineering have become worthless
what a stupid post

Alumni and friends of Louisiana Tech,
Over the past eight years and as a result of the efforts of our campus community, Louisiana Tech University has made significant impacts and achieved substantial growth in the face of unprecedented financial constraints and operational challenges. These accomplishments have shown what can be accomplished when working together to create opportunities for our students and our state.

Despite these achievements and our commitment to building a better tomorrow for all Louisianans, we find ourselves today on the threshold of a budgetary crisis that could cripple higher education in the State of Louisiana and could destroy the momentum and ability of Louisiana Tech to produce the graduates and economic development impacts needed to sustain a healthy and progressive workforce. The cuts that are being considered right now would have a crippling impact on nearly every aspect of our campus life and our community.

Now more than ever, the alumni and friends of Louisiana Tech must be active advocates for our university. We cannot sit on the sidelines and hope that others will speak loud enough for our institution and the higher education community. I strongly urge you to contact your legislators and community leaders, and tell them that funding for public universities must be preserved if we are to fulfill our obligations to our students, our community and industry partners, and the citizens of our state. We must effectively communicate to them that higher education is a critical part of the solution to Louisiana's financial challenges and not a source of the problem.

The upcoming special legislative session represents an unequivocal turning point for Louisiana Tech and, quite possibly, one of most important chapters in the higher education story that will be told for generations to come. Make no mistake about it...the budgetary decisions that are made in the next few weeks will affect every region, every community, every business and organization, and every Louisianan.

Please stay active and engaged in this fight for Louisiana Tech and higher education. I will keep you updated as best I can and would ask that you encourage others to lend their voices and advocate on behalf of Louisiana Tech and our entire higher education community.

Les Guice
President

This is an email from LA Tech. I still get these updates.

That's why we need to have John Kennedy, state treasurer, run. Only dude with knowledge capable of fixing this budget.

The problem, if anything, is the way this is taking place. No warning. Shock value. It's a political stunt. The program itself isn't up for debate. Although the fact the it's popular is the very reason this is happening.

No it's not BS. The "bright" students will still go to school and get a degree. Sucks kids might actually have to take out loans and think about how they pay them back as opposed to taking out 30k a year to get a fine arts degree

This is ignorant bs. I have a English degree that was paid for by tops. Wanna know what I'm doing right now? Teaching our future generations. Degrees open doors for people. Without tops, some of our brightest students won't get the chance to succeed..you stop this program, kids go from potential doctors, lawyers, engineers, teachers etc, to being stuck in the plants or McDonald's

So I graduated with a 34 ACT and a 4.2 GPA from a public HS in Baton Rouge, yet I get fricked by politics for remaining in this state and trying to graduate debt free.

You're right though, man. I shouldn't have gone out of state with close to a full ride somewhere else. I should have gone into a trade...

You do realize LSU has almost no scholarships for high performing students, correct?

With that said, any non-minority is now really fricked when it comes to obtaining any sort of financial aid.

It's not like there is scholarship money for every single minority college student. Plenty of people of all colors can't afford college without TOPS.
