Pretty much any "old" city can be classified as filthy. But all have decent places.

Matamoros, Mexico...The French Quarter seemed like a hospital operating room compared to this place.

L.A. was is pretty bad

It was bad. I will have to go back to double check. It could have been shock. I was so used to seeing L.A. on tv/movies and thinking the place had to be completely Beverly Hills, etc.

But, it isn't. Dust, Smog, Bums, etc...

New Orleans. No comparison. Even Istanbul was cleaner.

San Francisco, particularly the financial district and the tenderloin, is disgusting.

San Juan outside Old San Juan.

Old San Juan:

San Juan

Filthy.

The beaches are beautiful, though.

New Orleans of the early 1990s is pretty far up there.

Los Angeles. It is nothing like TV/Movies for the most part.

Depends on where you are. But I did find downtown L.A. to be pretty shitty

Port Harcourt Nigeria. It took 3 days back in the states to get the smell out of my nose.

In the US, there were more bums in Austin TX than anywhere else I've ever been.

New Orleans is the filthiest by far. Memphis is second

Abu Dhabi is the cleanest city I have ever visited. It's pretty remarkable for a city of its size to be that clean actually

Venice, Italy was pretty nasty/littered. Kathmandu, Nepal was the dirtiest. Colon, Panama was pretty disgusting. Parts of Bangkok spelled like the combination of Thai spices and a sewer.

Nothing is the States compared to any of those.
