Los Angeles purely because of the air quality. The residents themselves were pretty gross too.

Actually NYC was pretty filthy pre Guilianni (sic?). Now New Orleans is dirtier and it isn't close. I'd put Memphis a close second.

Miami, NOLA are givens. Was in Paris in the 80's and it was pretty dirty, not at all what I expected

I was surprised too...was nice to say I've been, but if I make another trip to Italy, this will be left off the itinerary. Been there done that.

I'm from New Orleans and travel for work a lot. I am always impressed by how clean other cities seem.

The entire city of L.A. smelled like a dump, had smog that I thought was fog, and had bums everywhere. It was gross

New Orleans will be at the top of everybody's list and I am ok with that for two reasons...
1. We are a party city, we are like that one house that everyone goes to party at and no one bothers to clean after the good times have rolled.
2. The entire city is not dirty. There are countless places that are nice and clean.

NOLA it's really not that close.
Chinatown in Boston (as I'm sure with most other cities) was pretty disgusting.
