That is because what you see in TV and the movies isn't realy LA. It is everything around LA. The city isself is dirty. Nothing on the level of filth in New Orleans, but it is dirty.

The areas around LA though are very clean.

I have. The border and the ocean. I was sticking to American cities for simplicity. I agree. There are far worse cities outside the country.

Stopped at several different ports so I'm not 100% sure where each of these pics were taken... but as for filthiest places I've visited the award goes to western Africa.

Tijuana. The smell when you cross the river is memorable. Nothing like stepping over mothers and children sleeping on the sidewalk at 3:00 a.m.

And, yeah, Tikrit and Gjilan, Kosovo were pretty filthy. I mean, dirtier than a lower end gas station bathroom in the Deep South.
