My room didn't even have doors on it. Just these massive panels on sliders. Room overlooked downtown and we had roof access to grill.

Sounds amazing

I prefer having a yard and not having to take an elevator to my apt, pay for parking, etc. Whs district is fun but you'll get more bang for your buck renting uptown.

I tend to agree, but different strokes for different folks. You're never that far from anywhere in New Orleans no matter where you live. I liked mytiny yard and I loved my front porch. Not much better way to spend a hot, muggy night than sitting on the front porch with your friends and neighbors, imo. I was two blocks from a streetcar stop and two blocks from a bus stop if I ever felt like going somewhere and couldn't drive.

My point is that living in the Quarter is an experience that not may people have the chance to experience, and if you can you should just try if for a year, or even just 6 months......then check it off your bucket list and move.

This is something to consider. Not sure of your temperament though. Living in the FQ can be fun!

I'm a firm believer that everyone should experience living in the Quarter for at least 1 year.

I agree but it's not a good idea to experience that while you're starting a new job and need to focus a lot of your attention on it. I've seen many people go down in flames when they allow themselves to become enmeshed in FQ life.

Thanks for the reco's y'all. WHD may be at the top of my list then.

Have spent a lot of time in the FQ and not opposed to living on the fringes maybe. My impression from locals was bang for the buck goes way down in terms of size and amenities etc.

I can't think of many places I'd rather live less than the FQ (I mean, besides the ghetto shithole neighborhoods). I'd live in the Marigny or the Bywater before I'd live in the damn FQ. What a nightmare that would be. Jesus.

Well, assuming cost is a reflection of desirability in residential living, you would apparently be wrong if you tried.

I have a friend who lives on the corner of Royal and Canal (2nd floor). Recent Divorcee, twoe BR great den/Wet bar overlooking Royal and Canal. Really nice on the inside. I might have to go stop by for Mardi gras....... Yeah, yeah.....

Entrance ways leave a little to be desired... LOL.

Not everyone wants to live in a high rise, deal with parking issues, or pay a premium for a small space.

mid city by the park is a great area. Access to the park, you can park right in front of your house or in a driveway, you can live in actual house, not below or next door to an a-hole.

good restaurants and bars, festivals, street car accessible. Relatively safe. There are a lot of pros.

I agree..... my best friend had a house near the corner or Orleans Ave and Carrolton. Nice location, close to City park and 5-10 minutes from DT

The Garden District is a sweet spot for someone in your place to live.

I live right near Magazine on Seventh and pay $800 (per roommate) for a 1300 square foot house.

Awesome bars/restaurants less than an eight iron away
Tracey's
Parasol's
Rendezvous
Bulldog
Reginelli's
Basin Seafood & Spirits
Balcony Bar (wouldn't call it "awesome," but it deserves to be on this list)
Ignatius
The Rum House (does nachoes doe )
GG's (awesome breakfast)
Slim Goodie's
Arana
The Big Fisherman
Dat Dog
Some Ethiopian restaurant
Another Broken Egg
Magazine Street Po Boys

Plus, you're a mile either way, uptown or downtown, to the LGD or the heart of Uptown. It's a sweet location and if you can't get laid living here, you just can't get laid, brah.

Good luck

My max for rent would be $2K probably. Not wanting to set down firm roots in a house just yet.

Needs to be in NOLA proper ideally so I can get to/from CBD with relative ease

Just reading this excited the shite out of me until I realized it was you and not me in this situation.

Have fun, man. For all of us.
