Job applications...do you choose to identify with a gender or ethnicity?

So lately it seems like every job application I encounter asks for my race and gender. The majority of them also give the option for you to decline to answer, which I immediately do without hesitation.

The way I see it, being a middle-class white male in this country already puts me at a disadvantage when it comes to finding work these days. Why should I choose to automatically disqualify myself by identifying with a gender or race that doesn't adhere to a company/department-imposed quota?

Does anyone else choose to not identify when asked such questions?

Hell yeah I identify myself. I also check Native American (1/16th) and scribble that I'm left-handed in the margin.

I might go gay if that add that shite to the form.

Well, my name pretty much answers the question of my gender.

I don't know if I'd answer race or not, but I also haven't filled out an application in a few years. My name is also pretty white, so it probably answers that question, too.

Because I'm pretty sure they assume everyone who refuses to answer as being a white male

As a white male I never hesitate to check the African American Female boxes.

I always just disclose it when I apply. They're gonna find out eventually

Yeah, I identify. I mean, if there's a phone or a face-to-face interview, they'll realize right off the bat that I'm a white guy.

If I was a hiring manager and I came across this, I'd probably NOT hire the guy because it looks like he's a shite stirrer.

I think that information is just supposed to be kept for statistical purposes, and it is not identifiable to you. I don't know how that stuff works out in reality though.
