Yep, my best friend and roommate in college shot himself in our rent house in 93. I tried to understand it for at least 10 years before i said frick it, ill never understand it

I both agree and disagree. Suicide is the coward's way out, but I totally understand why one would do this.
and being an a-hole is Rollins schtick, so this sorta plays with him. I don't know if you can truly take him seriously when he says this type of stuff.

Robin Williams was ill. The problem with most positions like this is that they ignore the reality that depression is an illness, not just the feeling you get when LSU loses.
This is correct.

And then you have the Menendez brothers who wanted very much for their parents to die. They eventually got tired of waiting for their inheritance so they shot mom and dad. One woman in the jury voted Not Guilty because "I felt sorry for the boys. They're orphans."

There's also a good chance that Henry Rollins doesn't know how depression works.

I bet he does now
Oops I'm sorry

This.
Just because you have kids doesn't mean you are immune to depression, mental illness or your own personal life.
Larry Bird on his Dad's suicide...
"I was mad when I heard about it and even madder after the funeral...because I thought he sort of cut out on us during a tough time...but you know, he went through a lot in his life....
He did what he had to do."

Ignoring the physiology of major depression, one could hold that POV.
Just as one could proclaim an individual suffering from anorexia should simply eat a sandwich or two.
Mental disease is harder for the layperson to reconcile.
It's not as simple as Rollins makes it sound.

When so many people suggest that a person with a broken mind should have made rational decisions, it is evident how few have any understanding of mental illness.
Posted on 8/25/14 at 11:12 am to EA6B
All of the medical experts were quoted as saying that in that state of mind, a person that sick does not have any rational thoughts, specifically about his family. I am no medical expert so I cann't give the reason/s why, but that is the general consensus. They also said that that level of depression is fleeting & that had he been able to speak to someone at that particular moment, he would have been ok. Till the next time. But to call someone a coward who is suffering from that disease is pitiful on so many counts. He WAS seeking help. The disease got to him.

I would agree that suicide when you have family can be seen as quite selfish. If he did it because of financial woes or such like that, it's pretty cowardice.
Has someone said "his life was cut short". Wouldn't apply at all in this case.

Agree, finally someone in Hollywood with balls enough to tell the truth

Or maybe, just maybe offing yourself is a conscious decision that in Williams' (and so many others) case harms countless lives. If he was clinically depressed, there were other available options for treatment.
But yeah, we don't understand.
It's clear that you don't.

Agree.
And I'm generally for ones right to decide to take their own life.
But if you have kids and you do it, I don't have words for those kinds of people. Makes my blood boil.

The survival instinct is overwhelming. Man will do anything to live.
If someone is so depressed that they take their own life, what does that tell you?

Some people are so fricked in the head that it is their belief that their loved ones would be better off without them around.
In their minds, they are doing something completely unselfish, and creating a better life for their loved ones.

my natural instinct is to agree with Rollins but there's just too much evidence out there about how depression actually works for me to put the blame all on williams.
