I just had the absolute worst food experience in my entire life at jubans. I cannot explain how disappointed I am because I have heard good things. My wife and I both got steaks that were too rare to even eat (and I like medium rare steaks but ordered medium out of an abundance of caution). We were in a big party so we didn't want to make a scene and send our food back, but our waiter noticed mine when he was picking up everyone's food and insisted on giving me one raw steak to go ( as in completely raw in a vacuum sealed pouch). Fine. When it came time to get the bills (again large party so I don't expect it to go smoothly) it took 55 minutes after we requested our check (the first one was wrong btw) and two visits with our waiter in the hallway to pay our $140 bucks for two glasses of wine, two salads, two bread puddings and a vacuum sealed steak. I am absolutely sick right now thinking about our experience. What was supposed to be a nice night with friends turned into a $140 nightmare and a novel on the food board typed entirely on an iPhone.

Sending a steak back to be put on a grill for a few minutes is not causing a scene imo.

Giving you a free raw steak is kinda cool I guess.

55 minutes to get the check is absurd. Was this for the whole table of checks or just you and your wife's?

That's a real shame. I've been eating often at Juban's over the past few months and it's always been nice. Not spectacular, but really nice.

Big party, little party, if you had raw steaks you couldn't eat you should have said so immediately. Period. Your night wouldn't have hurt so much if you had taken control of the situation in the beginning.

Sorry, that's the bottom line. You don't pay $140 for a disappointing night unless you chose to.

Use this as a life lesson, and don't allow yourself to become a victim ever again.

My guess is they were busy (Sat. night) and that's when most screwups happen. If you'd have sent it back to the grill they'd have been too busy to be offended.

Surprisingly funny ending

Sounds like you handled things pretty well. I understand not wanting to make a scene while dining with a big party.

May want to draft a letter to Juban's and conclude it with "Can you tell me why I would ever want to return to your restaurant?" I've never done this but I would be interested to know how they respond.

One of my more disappointing dining experiences occurred at Ruth's Chris in Metairie on our anniversary. Now we just look back on it and laugh about it.

Why do people feel the need to come on here and tell us about every poor dining experience they have?

Tell the manager. Not us.

I'm sorry, but this really doesn't sound all that bad to be running here to post this long arse review.

You went with a big group on a busy Saturday night and got a under cooked steak and had a slow service issue. No big deal. Complain to the server or manager and have your issue fixed.

At Juban's price point, what happened to the OP is unacceptable IMO.

It being a busy Saturday night is not an excuse. They need to be properly staffed.

No such thing as an undercooked steak to me. I got a rare hamburger last night at LuLu's and boy did that fricker come out rare. Had to face the burger away from people at my table, so as not to alarm them, and I think I grossed out the dude sitting next to me.

If you like medium rare what is the reason for this "abundance of caution?" what the frick does that even mean?

If an undercooked steak and waiting on a bill is the worst food experience of your life and you are absolutely sick about this experience then please stay home. If you can't ask a waiter to please cook this steak just a bit more than I pity you.

If you have dinner with me ( and I hope to god you don't) and tell me your steak is under cooked, I am snapping my fingers "Charlie, this vaginas steak needs a bit more grill time. Can you take care of that please? Thank you."

It really is that easy Sally.

I didn't think it was legal for a place to serve unprepared food to go like that.

I've eaten at Jubans many times and I find it to be a great place with good food. I've had the ribeye there a few times and was always cooked just as ordered. OP should have simply asked to have the steaks cooked a bit more. No big deal.

Sounds like you just need to sack up and learn to eat a steak properly.

took 55 minutes after we requested our check

This is the real problem, IMO. You should have spoken up instead of just taking it up the tailpipe.

And the waitress was beyond nice. Told her where we were going out that night if she wanted to meet up lol.

Its no big deal to send a steak back that's under cooked . The manager would far rather someone does that than writes a letter etc... Lots of restaurants won't split checks on parties of a certain size because it such a mess depending on computer systems. They may have needed another server to assist with your table. If you do write a letter the manager will surely say " I wish you could have told me about your issue while you were here and we could have fixed it while you were here." Bottom line- no problem sending something back that's not prepared correctly. Don't be an arse about it and the restaurant 99% of time will be very understanding and truly want to get you exactly what you wanted.

If that is the worst food experience of your entire life, consider yourself lucky to be blessed with a charmed life.

You didn't want to do the simple thing and send the steak back, so as to not "cause a scene", but you sat there and pouted until they brought you an uncooked one in a baggie? Am I reading that right?

That sounds like a scene to me, itself.
