Aurebelman, congrats on completing the program! I appreciated your input to this forum. And I also agree that I would like to see them add a specialization in real estate.

No one ever seems to talk about it, but I'm curious if anyone has gotten an invitation to SIE. I noticed that it requires completion of "at least two 700 level Management classes". Does this mean specifically MADM classes? Seems like a bit of an odd requirement as one would assume any MBA program would have at least two required Management classes.

At this point of my career, I actually don't need any honor societies for job opportunities or advancement, but it doesn't really cost much and I have a different, more-important-than-career-reason for chasing the honor societies.

I’m taking it with LIn.
Advice from the forum was that it’s easy and a waste of time. But a good option to pair with something else.
This is my first quarter after 10 years of being out of school so I’m going to easy to get my feet wet.

pineveillj- like others have mentioned here, taking ISDS705 all by itself is essentially a waste of a semester. It is not a true gauge of the coursework of the MBA program.

Darrat MKT 701 Breakdown:

Tests - 3 x 50 pts
Case Studies - 3 x 50 pts
Discussion Questions - 10 x 20 pts

Total - 500 pts, 450+pts = A

The case studies were about 3.5 pages each, plus references. Averaged 49/50 on those with that LoE.

Discussion Questions - Write about 750 words, use 2 references. Respond back to 2-3 classmates with 200 word responses or so, no references required. Full credit on all is easily attainable.

Tests - Multiple choice, get a copy of the text and read that, then review the PPTs he provides to see what he is highlighting, the text will have provided the context. Focus on knowing the concepts in detail and be able to apply them.

Appreciate the info Marek76! I am going to try and get that class out of the way pretty quick.

For those who are almost done with the program. How hard would you say ECON is? One of the 2-3 hardest classes or somewhere in the middle? Thinking about getting in that for AP2 instead of MADM 760. Would you recommend taking any other courses before Econ?

sejaxon,

I think I remember seeing that you could get one "C".

You can have 2 C's. Getting a D will put you on academic probation and you will need to repeat the class to boost your grade. When you graduate, your GPA must be at a 3.0+.

assuming if you get a 3rd C, they make you retake that class or are you just out?

I thought it was funny how he said that there was no disconnect between the material presented and the test, yet everyone bombed the final?? Also - he was surprised most people didn’t take the practice or spent very little time on it......I wonder why!?? Number one, we had an assessment and final in the same week, so there wasn’t any spare time to spend, also people obviously realized he would throw curves on the final that weren’t on the practice - so it was pointless.

Here's what we really had...3 chapters to read, a quiz, a weekly assessment, a practice final, and then the final.

I'll be taking MADM 760 with McLaughlin in AP2 and then I'm done. IMHO there are no "hard" classes in this program. There are various levels of work required, some "busy" (MKT701) some real (ECON705).

In my personal order of amount of work required (Least to Most):

ISDS705 - Lin
BADM790 - Loughrin
MKT710 - Darrat
MADM730 - Menon
FIN701 - Vines
ACCT701 - McGee
ECON705 - Shaugnessy
MADM701 - Williams
MKT701 - James

I will be writing a full debrief once I'm near complete with the program.

Congrats to everyone for completing another term, enjoy the week off!

Good question. I imagine that they would let you take it again like most other universities would, but they would probably limit you to one more time.

Does anyone have any feedback on MADM 760 with Meeks? Just got the syllabus and it doesnt seem too bad except for all of the group b.s., which I imagine is a giant pain in the arse? Any info would be greatly appreciated.

MADM 760 with Meeks is a good class. The quizzes are directly out of the readings & presentations. The individual assignments...the best advice I can give you is the more you write the higher your grade. Not even kidding. Write, write & write. Even it’s jibberish. I wouldn’t be surprised if he did a word count & graded that way. I noticed my grades fluctuated based on word count as did my teammates.
As you already mentioned there’s plenty of group work. I was fortunate to have a good team and knocked out a lot of our tasks early in the week. Zoom videos are straightforward 3-5 min recordings and send them to Meeks

Zachtiger- Im in the same boat with Madm 760. I almost dropped it due to the group work. Im going to stick with it since everyone raves about Dr Meeks and I want to experience his teaching style.

Its a gamble on how good your group is.

I'd echo what BTX said. Meeks isn't hard as long as you are comfortable with writing. My biggest complaint is his condescending emails. I have a theory that he sends the same ones each session to "motivate" his classes. They just rubbed me the wrong way. If he has a legitimate complaint about the way some students act, he needs to address it with them individually. I've been a professional for 18 years. I don't need to be treated like a child.

This is in general a favorite class and one of the better professors in the program. It's middle of the road to easy on the scale of hardness.

The group work isn't that bad and this is one of the few classes where you can get to know some of your fellow students. I wouldn't let it scare you away.

Thanks pinveillj - This will be my first class/classes in 20+ years. Appreciate the comments to add an additional class, but I am late in getting registered. Limited amount of classes still available. I have set up the notifications if any last minute seats come available.
