I was not able to see an opening in Gibbs ISDS705. I have Darban.

Best of luck

Zachtiger- Im in the same boat with Madm 760. I almost dropped it due to the group work. Im going to stick with it since everyone raves about Dr Meeks and I want to experience his teaching style.

Its a gamble on how good your group is.

I hate group work. I travel a lot for work and so I'm often in different timezones, which makes it very hard for something like that. However, I found Meeks to be well worth the annoyance that the group work entailed. Met some nice folks, didn't end up being as bad as I expected for that. Wish I could have had Meeks in another class, just didn't work out that way.

IMHO, if you finish your MBA w/ LSUS and have not had Meeks and Shaugnessy, you missed out.

Trying to get into MADM 760 with McLaughlin but no openings, does anyone know anything about John Harrison?

Econ with Shaughnessy is a great class. That's not to say it's an EASY class, as it highly depends on your math skills, and there is a bit of calculus involved.

The calculus involved is extremely minimal. In fact, I'll provide it right here as a quick tutorial to anyone concerned about it.

The derivative of ax^n = (a*n)x^(n-1). So the derivative of 5x^3 = 15x^2.

Just one more example, 2x^3+5x^2-3x+9 dy/dx = 6x^2+10x-3, the last term drops off because 9 is the same as 9x^0, so taking the zero down cancels the term out.

There ya go, all the calculus you need for Econ.

Thanks @Marek, I will probably end up staying in it. Just was thinking about moving to another section as my schedule is pretty rigorous and don’t have much spare time for group work. Thanks for the input !

No, I’m an MBA graduate from LSU Shreveport. We are eligible from r the ring and to be in the ring ceremony.

TigerChick, Thanks for letting us know we're eligible for the ring.

I think sometimes it gets overlooked that we're truly part of the LSU system. We may be Pilots but we're also Tigers!

When I'm talking with people and my degree comes up, I just say I went to LSU. I see no need to specifically say the Shreveport campus. No one outside of the State of Louisiana or surrounding states understands or cares about the differentiation.

In SE TX they do. To my chagrin, its apparently considered the Devry of the bayou.

You're right, I should have said it can matter in surrounding states as well.

But I didn't realize some may see it as the DeVry of the Bayou.

I think the low cost can give people that mistaken perspective. I certainly don't see it that way. It's just as good quality as schools with $70,000 MBA programs.

Not sure how to take that one. I always had a low opinion of DeVry until I met an extremely intelligent guy who was an SVP of a major corporation making mid 6 figures... so... maybe it's not so bad.

Reviewed ISDS 705 Gibbs syllabus but projects aren’t defined, and they are worth a total of 120 points. Can anyone expand what the projects entail?

The projects build off each other, it’s really one project that you build in steps. So he’ll have you do things like identify certifications that are available for your job and then choose one to put focus towards. At one point you’ll create a little website about yourself. Eventually you build a project plan. It’s all very straightforward, not difficult, and worthwhile as it gives you something to think about. He is a generous grader and from what I could tell gives points for making a real effort.

I’m taking ISDS 705 with Gibbs as well. However, I do not see his syllabus on Moodle or received any emails. Am I missing something?

I found one from Spring 2018 on Course Hero. That might be what they are referring to.

The upcoming AP2 session’s syllabus hasn’t posted yet, but there was a prior session’s circulated. That’s what I referenced

Syllabus and Rubrics for MADM760 with McLaughlin are up. Looks very straight forward and no group work. Weekly tests, a weekly mini case forum discussion and a 3 paragraph weekly application assignment. So far its looking like a good move switching to McLaughlin.
