ISDS 710 (Darrat, Data Analytics concentration, and general elective):
Also about to start this course on Data Analytics. Read/Math focused template with a final project. Apparently, the entire format and content of the course changed this term (Fall AP2), as it focuses on statistical modeling using the R data analysis programming language. ISDS 702 (statistics) appears to be a natural prerequisite. An undergraduate degree in computer science, information technology, or prior experience as a software developer or programmer is going to make a massive difference in how you handle the course workload up front.
Now I feel robbed. This was EXACTLY the course that I wanted. Instead I got Marketing w/ a few numbers added.

Econ with Shaughnessy is a great class. That's not to say it's an EASY class, as it highly depends on your math skills, and there is a bit of calculus involved.
The calculus involved is extremely minimal. In fact, I'll provide it right here as a quick tutorial to anyone concerned about it.
The derivative of ax^n = (a*n)x^(n-1). So the derivative of 5x^3 = 15x^2.
Just one more example, 2x^3+5x^2-3x+9 dy/dx = 6x^2+10x-3, the last term drops off because 9 is the same as 9x^0, so taking the zero down cancels the term out.
There ya go, all the calculus you need for Econ.

Zachtiger- Im in the same boat with Madm 760. I almost dropped it due to the group work. Im going to stick with it since everyone raves about Dr Meeks and I want to experience his teaching style.
Its a gamble on how good your group is.
I hate group work. I travel a lot for work and so I'm often in different timezones, which makes it very hard for something like that. However, I found Meeks to be well worth the annoyance that the group work entailed. Met some nice folks, didn't end up being as bad as I expected for that. Wish I could have had Meeks in another class, just didn't work out that way.
IMHO, if you finish your MBA w/ LSUS and have not had Meeks and Shaugnessy, you missed out.
Darrat MKT 701 Breakdown:
Tests - 3 x 50 pts
Case Studies - 3 x 50 pts
Discussion Questions - 10 x 20 pts
Total - 500 pts, 450+pts = A
The case studies were about 3.5 pages each, plus references. Averaged 49/50 on those with that LoE.
Discussion Questions - Write about 750 words, use 2 references. Respond back to 2-3 classmates with 200 word responses or so, no references required. Full credit on all is easily attainable.
Tests - Multiple choice, get a copy of the text and read that, then review the PPTs he provides to see what he is highlighting, the text will have provided the context. Focus on knowing the concepts in detail and be able to apply them.

After MKT 701, there is no where to go but up!

Just finished the FIN701 exam tonight. Completed a couple of final discussion question responses in MKT701.
I'm officially done and unless something went REALLY REALLY wrong on the FIN701 exam, completed with a 4.0 and BGS in 12 months.
It's hard to believe it's over, but damn does it feel good.

Is there a forum (other than TigerDroppings) for students/classes?
I start on 10/22 and I don't have a clue what to do or where to be or when. Panic is starting to override anxiety. Books?
Any and all help welcomed. I am enrolled in HCAD750 and ISDS705
Just make sure your Moodle account works and start logging in a week before class starts and check daily for the prof to start populating info. Everything will be laid out for you there.

Not a reply, but doesn't anyone have any input on the 500 level courses?
My undergrad wasn't in business, so I'm a little concerned about the basics like terminology.
I'm currently a manager dealing with P&L and such with an undergrad in ChE. Does anyone think it's worth it? A waste of time/money?
I really would not waste the time. A bit extra on the reading part and you will be fine, especially if you have the math background for a ChE degree. MBAs are broad, but not deep, so they are designed to give people with different business backgrounds an effective business management skillset. The vast majority of finance math is Algebra 1 material from a mathematical complexity perspective. My daughter's HS Stats class is about the same depth as the stats we do here. This is much more about concepts and application, which is part of the course material.

(If you want a head start, pick up the "Playing to Win" book and begin reading it.)
Second that. The text is quick and easy to read, everything is in weekly videos, and it's a lot more about putting in the work to do the writing and group work than any pre-reading outside "Playing to Win".
Well, I YOLO'd the exam, and I'm 1 point under an A for the class (unless he really does give the 2 pts he said he would after the fact), but I did bomb the exam. So, I'll be doing the discussion question, but I think I can get by with a less than stellar effort to pick up a single point.
Same boat w/ MKT 701. I'm having a really really hard time reading the text before taking the exam. I may just go through the PPTs tonight, then give the exam a shot. If I do well enough, I can skip the last discussion question, because I really don't want to watch that whole video. I've seen it before, but don't remember enough detail to provide examples as the question asks. I'm just totally ready to check out, only have to finish prepping for the FIN 701 Exam 4 after this.
The on-campus representative for BGS seems to be Prof M. Darrat. I would reach out to him if you were summer session and did not see an invite. He was the one that issued the LSUS email to notify of the invitation.

How did you on the first 2 for Finance 701
I was carrying a 99.5% going into Exam 3.
I got 12 percentage points higher on the second test also in MKT 701. I have to say I got an awesome grader this term in MKT. In fact, I submitted my Case Study 3 mid-day on Sunday, had a grade back by evening, before the turn-in deadline even hit!
Finished FIN701 Exam 3, was the easiest one so far. There were so many ways it could have been ugly, but I guess I got lucky on the question selection and every quant question was one I had built into my excel models.
Feeling really good heading into the last 11 days of this program.

Just be glad you are not up to your eyeballs in K. James MKT701 project. I'm hating Darrat's MKT701 class, but it seems like the better of two evils. I still have to write my last case study, but that is what I will be doing for the next 3-4 hours. I found Exam 2 to be a bit better than Exam 1, but then I read the chapters in the text. Once this case study is done, it's all downhill to the finish line. A couple FIN 701 exams, 3 discussion questions, and 1 last MKT exam.
Taking MKT 701 is like a repeated poke in the eye, with something sharp. Back to studying now for this exam. Meh.

We are at the finish line for AP1. almost there.
Yep! Three weeks to go! I can almost taste it. Fighting very hard to keep on top of everything, senior-itis has set in bad. 1 Paper, 4 Exams, 4 Discussion Questions to go for that piece of paper! This week will knock out 66% of the remaining work.

I started Oct 2017 and will finish this term.
I took the following distribution of courses - 2, 2, 1, 1, 2, 2. The 1 & 1 was based on course availability w/ the core requirements and classes filling up.
I was technical, but been in mgmt for the last 10 years. I work in budget management, technology strategy, and business operations. I work about 50 hrs a week, travel about 25%, have full custody of 3 kids, and am going through a high-conflict divorce. Tend to spend about 10-12 hrs per week on school.

I think FIN710 goes down as the hardest class I've had in the program. I can't comment on 751, heard good things about it, but I avoid classes with a lot of writing.
I did the specialization, not the concentration.
ISDS710 - Data Analytics - This is really Marketing Analytics, you do some excel based calculations, a touch of linear regression, but more focus around CLTV, online marketing metrics, etc.
ISDS702 - Quant Methods in Business - This is a heavier statistics class, digging into the details on regression and multi-variate regression and ANOVA. Well taught and worth taking regardless of the specialization or not.
I don't remember the course code for the 3rd one, it's a healthcare informatics class. I went specialization instead of concentration specifically because I had no interest in taking this class.

Yeah, I lost a couple points for not having headings. I had my running header, main title page, initial heading and references heading. I didn't have any in the middle of the document. I lost a couple points. I have no intention of perfecting my APA at this point. I have exactly 2 APA style papers left in my collegiate career, calling it good enough.
Nope, didn't know there was a textbook available. Went back through the Moodle and can't find anything.
The issue I have is that he provided PPTs, which I read through 5 times. Then gave guidance to focus on broad issues and concepts. Then he went and asked for detailed bits on specific issues. It's like he said "Look a squirrel!", then smacked you upside the head when you turn to look.

I took the MKT701 exam today w/ Darrat. It might have been the worst exam grade of my entire time at LSUS. The only other one that might have compared was the final in ISDS 710. At least there are only 3 exams in MKT, but I'm really hoping the case study graders are lenient to buy me breathing room on the exams. I really do not want this class to be the one that costs me my 4.0.
The FIN701 Exam 1 that had me a bit concerned ended up a non issue, scoring 100%.

I wasn't very impressed with the FIN 701 exam. I got about 7 qualitative. The problem that I have with them is that they are very broad and beg for rambling answers. Plus, some of them are actually multiple questions in 1. I think I ended up doing the equivalent of 17 questions on a 10 question test. Things like define these 3 terms, etc.
Looking back, I just don't see how I would be able to effectively distill the content he provides in a way that will rapidly translate to taking the test. I'll just stick with reading the material several times, building spreadsheets for quant and keep winging it. That said, I'm rather anxious about my grade on this one.

I want to start on Netflix paper right away as I don't know my work schedule for next week. But the problem is that professor will not make HBR paper available until next week.
Is there any body in the forum who already has it and can share ? Name of the paper is "Netflix Inc.: The Second Act - Moving into Streaming".
Unfortunately, they usually cycle case studies each term. Plus Darrat has only taught one session of this course in the last year, so best option if you need it early is to bust our your credit card and go buy it from HBR.
The countdown clock issue seems strange. However, unless everyone bombed the first test because it covered material not provided in the chapters, then it might be worthwhile to go back and reassess how you went about preparing.
Regarding the course material vs the test content. There is no requirement that the structure is the same, but whatever is on the test should have been covered in the material. Some professors are more hands on, others less so. Online courses are better for some than others, you just have to decide if they are right for you. They do require significantly more ability to learn on your own, because you don't get multiple lectures every week to walk you through things the same way as in-class learning.
If you are concerned about having the motivation to start again after taking 7 weeks off, might be worthwhile to decide if this is really something you want.

In general, my approach to all of the classes that I've had with the Discussion Question style grades has been to develop a stance based on the question, find 2 credible references, usually from HBR, SHRM, Forbes, or some mainstream source. I'll also check places like Knowledge@Wharton, INSEADKnowledge, and other academic type locations. Freewrite on the subject based on the information gained, shim in the sources and then proofread edit. Normal effort per discussion question is about 1-1.5 hrs.
I do my papers the same way, but I will grab 4 references, write 1500 words and follow a cookie cutter outline that directly addresses everything in the rubric. Normal effort per paper is 2-3 hrs for the 3-5 page range.
A key thing to remember is that a "good" paper in the sense of being high value may not receive good marks. However, a paper with good marks may in reality be a fairly low value work. Papers for classes are all about the rubric. If you feel the need to put in a ton of extra effort, that's great, but the vast majority of these papers are documents with a singular purpose, get a grade. Papers in the work world are intended to live on and provide ongoing value.

Meeks is routinely identified as one of the best profs in the entire program. I have yet to see anything negative stated about him.
I think you mixed up the courses, Koksal taught ISDS 702. The ISDS 710 was the Marketing class by M.Darrat w/ the final exam blindside. (Not to be confused w/ A.Darrat teaching MKT701.)
The ISDS 702 class was an absolute breeze if you spend the time to watch the videos, 45 minutes of slow paced videos, do the homework excel while watching. The open book HW test was just pulling answers from your HW excel, then a Proctorio exam that is more theory and takes 10 minutes. Literally a 60-75min per week level of effort.

ISDS 710 is a mid-intensive course. I found it to be much less work and much less challenging than ECON 705.
