The hardest thing about this class is taking the exams through ProctorU. Someone is actually staring in your face as you take the exam. I had issues on 2 of the 3 exams. You are allowed a one page front and back note sheet but they expect you to keep your eyes on the computer screen the whole time. The lady who was proctoring me both times actually went got her supervisor on me. They stopped my test and gave me all kinds of warnings which aggravated the hell out of me. The supervisor started proctoring my test and suddenly I had no issues. This class was a easy for me because I am a I.T. Specialist. It is very straightforward but for someone who has no I.T. knowledge it could be a lot to try to remember. Make good note sheets and you should do fine. You can double up this class for sure.!

What is the format of McLaughlin’s MADM760? All papers? Tests? If tests, are they proctored?

Could someone please elaborate on the format/difficulty of the following classes:

ISDS 702 Quantitative Methods in Business
ISDS 715 Project Management
MADM 710 Strategic Management of Human Capital
MADM 730 International Business

I need one more elective for Spring AP1 or AP2 and I'm looking for the best balance between usefulness and ease of completion.

Thanks.

MADM 730 was a great class but a bunch of work - chapter readings with weekly proctored tests, a 12-15 page individual paper, a group project with another long paper, and weekly discussion topics you need to respond to. I got a lot out of it and Dr. Menon was great but again it was time intensive.

Any thoughts on pairing a class with Econ 705?

Pair it with Lin if you can.

Thanks, Rocky for your comments, exactly what I was looking for. Anyone have similar comments for the other classes?

I'll echo Rocky11's comments and add that if you take MADM 730 make sure to pay for the main textbook. All the exam questions are in the textbook and not the PPT.

I’m one of those. I got booted from proctoring trying to open an embedded spreadsheet. I did not have an opportunity to attempt approximately 15 questions. So I made an F on the final. My 38 was boosted to a 58 with the additional 20 points. Overall, my class grade dropped from a 96 to a high c and ended with 88.

So having now completed the MBA program I would suggest that 7 week courses be extended to 9; same course work only spaced out a bit more to provide time for deeper understanding and retention.

I’m so excited. I ordered my “Forever LSU” class ring and I get to participate in the ring ceremony on the Baton Rouge campus November 4.. anyone else going?

LINK

“A night with Mike”....having the rings kept in the cage with Mike the night before the ceremony.... how fun and original.

Truthfully, I have no clue. I’ve paid no attention to my GPA.

I’ve not read your prior posts, but it depends on the strength of your math skills. If they’re weak you should consider taking it alone.

Econ with Shaughnessy is a great class. That's not to say it's an EASY class, as it highly depends on your math skills, and there is a bit of calculus involved. Some of the most difficult parts of the class was actually wrapping my head around the math cocepts again after a long time away from school.

That said, I recommend this: Spend a LOT of time on the initial work, assignments and self assessment. It's mostly qualitative so if you really spend the time to make sure everything is correct, you basically can get a lot of "free points". They're not timed, I spent quite a lot of time on these, but the extra work on these will come in handy. Also make sure you really get the final assignment (not graded) down pat, which is QUANTITATIVE. The final assessment each week is exactly the same. No curveballs. The assignment isn't graded because he's going to essentially test you on most of it with the weekly assessment. Have these ducks in a row each week before the zoom session so you can ask questions on things you're having trouble with. The work isn't proctored or timed, so you can take your time and work things out! Utilize this benefit.

If you got things wrong, you can email him and ASK what you got wrong. Don't just cry about not getting the test back, he will try and help you if you ask. A lot of the information builds upon previous weeks info, so you should try and make sure you fix any misunderstandings. So far, Shaughnessy has been the best teacher I've seen in the program. The class is well designed for an online format, and he really gives up more time and effort than any other teacher I've seen so far. I actually wouldn't be surprised if they told me that Lin doesn't even exist.

Recap: It's not an easy class, but it's a good one. There's some math involved, and your math ability will impact your success. Be prepared to spend a lot of time if you have poor math skills.

I really enjoyed it and you will learn some interesting things. He doesn't tell you about it, but there was a famous guy in Hong Kong that created a regression model to make millions of dollars on horse racing. You'll also learn about regression models in the class.

I really enjoyed ISDS 702 and learned a lot. Dr. Koksal had a rough first session with this course, you can see that if you look back, but he obviously took the feedback and improved because I have no complaints about it at all. He has lectures where he walks you through everything (roughly an hour to an hour and a half per week). He also was really helpful in Zoom sessions. If you have a statistics background or enjoy statistics I highly recommend it.

It appears alumni, undergrad, and graduate students are welcome.
