"Silas Marner" was adapted by Steve Martin.

I can't believe anybody thinks the movie version of Congo was better than the book. The movie seemed like one of those straight to video films.

Most of the time I like the book WAY better than the movie. The only time I remember that not being the case is Bridges of Madison County. The movie I actually enjoyed more than the book.

This by a bunch. I loved the idea of the LOTR books and they set me to reading fantasy, which I love. But I never really liked the LOTR novels. Reading them was more like a chore than enjoyment. The LOTR movies are what the books should have been.

It did. That's why it got bad reviews. And any merit it had was destroyed with ridiculous ending where the guy throws away the diamond they spent the whole movie trying to get. That didn't happen in the book.

all of this. The Godfather novel is excellent, and iirc its essentially the story of Godfather 2(movie) as well.
If I remember correctly, it had the story about Vito's early life and rise to power, but not the main portion of the plot of the second movie.

I think an argument can be made for Apocalypse Now, as well.
Nah, doesn't really hold up to Heart of Darkness for me. But then I wasn't a huge fan of the film either, just thought it was solid.
I'd go with Field of Dreams as another that fits this mold, and definitely Blade Runner as well.

I was telling someone at work today "You know what I don't understand, people that get pissed off and are surprised that the movie isn't like the book. I learned when I was 6 years old that the movie is never gonna be like the damn book. How do people still let this surprise them and bother them is beyond me."

True Blood (even though not a movie) is way better than the books. The books are just terrible. Like a 14 year old wrote them.

its been over 15 years since i read the book, so i don't remember exactly what aspects of godfather 2 were in the book.
