I was due for some new hunting clothes this year. I've had pretty much every brand shirts and pants from hand me down old school military to Under Armour shirts ect. I needed some new stuff and I typically get my hunting stuff from Dicks because I've earned like $200 over the past two years or so in gift certificates so I try to buy there to keep those coming in. But I didn't feel like driving there so I went to Academy which is right by my house.

I wanted a nice coat and some waterproof overalls. The best coat Acadmy had was a nice Drake for $250. But they had a Game Winner coat right next to it for $110 that was pretty much the exact same thing. Magnet closing pockets, hand warmers, lots of storage, hoodie, water proof. The Game Winner even had a I tube pocket to hold shells in. So I got that.

Then I went to the overall and there was a nice set of Under Armour that was $270. I like Under Armour but right next to it was another Game Winner suit. Again, it was pretty much exactly the same but maybe not quite as light as the Game Winner, but not as durable looking. So I got the Game Winner for $99.

Does it matter to you which brand you buy? I feel like you're pretty much buying the name with Under Armour and Drake.

Also, didn't realize Academy had a no hassle return policy. I went in there to buy a patch kit for my three year old waders. There was a small leak in the back. But I asked the dude at the counter if this glue was the best they had. He asked me did I buy the old waders from this store, which I did. He told me to bring em back even with them being old. So I brought back a three year old wet pair of waders with like a dry rotted tag on them. They don't even sell that brand anymore. So I told him there was a comparable pair out there that was $120 bucks, that's what I paid for my. The dude gave me a $120 credit them So I got me a some $170 waders for $50 So just tell academy your waders/jacket/boots/pants are ruined and they'll give you a new pair I guess.

Cheapest good brand I can find. Usually that is Red Head for me. I get all my camo from Dicks when they run their 50% off sales.

I guess it depends on what kind of hunting you do and conditions you are in. I only deer/squirrel/rabbit hunt, so I have been wearing the same busted camo pants with layers underneath. I have an under armour top for a base then wear a heavy coat with camo shirt on top of that. I will say that the under armour socks keep my my feet warm. They were under 10 bucks a pair.

Drake gear is well worth it in my opinion. I have the MST equader 1/4 zip pullover jacket (the one with the hood). I think of everything I own it is the most I've ever been satisfied with any purchase. Seriously, not a gun, not any electronics, but that jacket.

I have bought both in the past but currently have mostly Game Winner gear. Haven't noticed much of a difference. I don't skimp on my base layer of clothing though. I have a pair of silk thermals that I would not trade for all the tea in China. JMO.

I'm wearing drake and under armour in the stand right now. Drake base layers and vest and under armour bib and jacket. I like that they are not bulky at all and I'm still warm ans flexible when bow hunting in 20 degrees.

I have some drake stuff. Most of my deer stuff is redhead or cabelas. Only time I buy the cheap brands is for t shirts and the like, everything else I feel like the nicer stuff will last longer.

I'm with you on this. I just ordered a full zip deluxe equader. It was only $110. I have the 1/4 zip fleece lined without a hood. I layer my clothes and don't wear 1 big heavy jacket.
I will save up to get good clothes and boots. It is much more enjoyable to be warm and dry when hunting.

I own a few articles of clothing from both brand names the op stated. Seems to me like everything under armor aside from their original stuff is garbage. It tears up very quickly. I think they are the quintessential example of people buying a name brand. The drake stuff is good but it really is expensive. Haven't used the stuff enough to see if its worth the price. Very comfortable and seems well thought out but durability is key with waterfowl equipment. I normally use the candelas shirt and pants while hunting. I know it's a name brand too but for 65 bucks you can get a pretty decent shirt and bdu style pants in the pattern you prefer.

Biggest deal for me is not feeling constricted. I start to kick, jerk and cry like a little kid in his football gear that can't get off of the ground.

I got a pair camo boots two years ago 1/2 off and they have been the best boots I've ever owned. $70.

I love dicks.
God that sounds so gay.
