I’ll go with 1917. It’s a more complete movie in my opinion.

Dunkirk is good but it never reaches the highs of 1917 nor does it have the emotional resonance of 1917. Also, as has been pointed out, for an epic battle movie,Dunkirk feels small scale.

1917 was a memorable theater experience.. felt like I’d been squeezed tight for 2 hours and could finally exhale with the credits rolling

Dunkirk was good and some cool scenes but I don’t think I’ve rewatched it since and don’t really care to do it now

2019 was a fantastic year for movies. I had 1917 as the best movie of that year. It blew me away seeing it in theatre. I need to see Dunkirk again. Went on release night but didn’t buy my tickets ahead of time and ended up having to sit in the front row with my neck breaking. Completely took me out of it

Dunkirk did not meet the hype sadly. 1917 is incredible

Tom Hardy's bit as the pilot that wouldn't give up was the highlight of Dunkirk and it did feel disjointed. Like a series of small events stitched together. 1917 had a unified plot and arc for the main character and a great ending. As I said in an earlier thread, OUATIH (July), Parasite (Oct.), and 1917 (December) was one hell of a three movie series for me.

My exact thoughts.

Dunkirk’s trailer is better than the movie

Because it is. It’s multiple storylines that take place over different timeframes, which are stitched together until they converge.

1917 for me. Both are good movies, but that one was a much more unique experience and impressive.

I like Dunkirk overall as a solid war movie. 1917 is far and away the better movie. Storytelling, editing, score, acting, action are all better than Dunkirk. 1917 was my best movie of the year that year. Never a dull moment in that movie and never got bored watching it.

Dunkirk is good

1917 is an illusion of a technical gimmick, and its "substance" amounts to showy cameo fest.

Easiest question this board has asked in a long long long time. And the answer is 1917.

Very different movies. Hard to compare. Dunkirk has amazing pace and is very tight. 1917 being one long shot made it special.

Hot take is hot.

I like both but 1917 is a better film overall.

Dunkirk is a stitching of 10 different true(ish) stories together in one day.

1917 is one fictional story happening among 100 true ones in a single day.

A poster above said Dunkirk felt small scale and I agree. The maximum number of ships they had onscreen at once was like 5. That felt like a travesty.

Dunkirk was very overrated. The whole move is people waiting for a plane to fly over
