Didn't a guy die in that race just last year, or the year before, the exact same way?

There's nothing in Lake Woodlands that isn't in any other body of water.
I've done one Tri. It was at Bridgeland in NW Houston. The open water swim was in the lake there. Let me tell you, open water swims in Tris are mayhem. Imagine swimming in a frantic group of 50+ people who all go in the water in a random conglomeration group. So fast guys are behind slower guys. People slam into you, kick you in the face, swim over you, it's a brawl. I worked my way to the fringe and probably swam an extra several hundred yards just trying to keep from getting aquatrampled. I bet I swallowed a gallon of lake water. It was bananas.
I can see how even pros could get kicked or hit and knocked out and drown. It's crazy.

Texas has become so woke they allow women to compete in IronMAN competitions.
Maybe the based muzzies taking over in Dallas isn’t all that bad

Is everyone an influencer or do a disproportionate amount of them die every month?

I would imagine that influencers tend to live more dangerous lifestyles, and that’s part of what makes them interesting and attracts viewers.

The swim is considered the most dangerous part of the race. If you have cardiac arrest during the swim then it’s a lot harder to receive you than if you fall off your bike and it becomes quickly evident.

Yup, me too
Didn’t a feller die of heart attack running a marathon recently too. Zero reason to push your body to extremes.

I think 2024. Heart attack during the swim. Another one died in 2017 too. And in 2008, they had a sprint tri in that lake and a participant had a heart attack during the swim.

Not super uncommon sadly. Recent Ironman a man died in Salt Lake. Water was 60 degree.

Has some giant bass that hardly ever get pressured, they've also got some brush piles set up near the dam for some good crappie fishing.
