High school kid joking on X about not receiving an offer - bad look or innocent fun?

This has been going around social media; a high school football player made a joke on X about not receiving an offer from a school and got called out by another coach. Reaction seems split between people thinking he's entitled and stupid, and others thinking it's a simple joke with him admitting he needs to work harder. What say you?

The kid made a joke, a high school linebacker coach tried to shame him for likes so he can get famous and score his own offer.
Not a story.

I guess I'm venturing into Boomer territory but I think it is ridiculous the amount of social media posts I see from highschool kids about offers, visits, etc. And it seems to be trickling down to even younger kids too.
The culture around these kids has taught them that they are the star and the world revolves around them, and it seems like the parents are the main drivers of that. Seems like no one is humble anymore.

This seems to be more in line with self deprecation than a slight against the program.

You really think a recruiter would shy away from a kid who says he gonna keep working?
Nope
Opposite. I wanna watch the guy who laughs it off and gets back to grinding

its harmless but if there is one thing i have learned....many college coaches are sensitive AF & worry about the dumbest shite
i have seen D3 baseball coaches say they wont offer a kid if he is wearing airpods when walking into the facility from his vehicle or if you are wearing shoes that they dont believe shows you are not taking it serious....not offering. and im talking parking lot to the locker room, not on the field
i mean look at the Oregon QB coach, he said he wont offer if you take too long to answer what your favorite ice cream flavor is.
college coaches will look for any reason to justify any pre conceived notion they have so no doubt he just got taken off some boards.

He probably froze on the vanilla/chocolate ice cream question.

it is a self deprecating joke. Any coach that sees that as a negative is a huge dooshbag.

I took it as him making fun of the other kids who tweet out their "blessings" for every single one of the 42 offers they receive.

saying he “mocked” the program. I didn’t get that vibe at all.
it's hard to tell tone/intent from a 1 sentence tweet but I can see how someone could take it that way. Basically saying "this school suuuuucks so bad! Thank God they didn't give me an offer". Kinda like the old joke about shitty restaurants having a "sorry, we're open" sign.
Not saying that's what he actually meant, but I can see how some woudl see it.
But overall I agree with the others that this is the dumbest shite to not only care about, but write an article about it too. Geez.

At what point were these kids not stars?

The bad look is when kids post about getting an offer or committing and they get the name of the school wrong.

This is quite the insane interpretation.

He might be a star in PE class but at a D2 junior day he’s just another dude
