i have seen D3 baseball coaches say they wont offer a kid if he is wearing airpods when walking into the facility from his vehicle or if you are wearing shoes that they dont believe shows you are not taking it serious....not offering. and im talking parking lot to the locker room, not on the field
i mean look at the Oregon QB coach, he said he wont offer if you take too long to answer what your favorite ice cream flavor is.
college coaches will look for any reason to justify any pre conceived notion they have so no doubt he just got taken off some boards.
It’s a job interview, I have no problem with any of this. Their having a job depends heavily on getting the right players and culture. And if I’m interviewing for a job and someone walks into the lobby dressed like a slob and having headphones of any sort in, I don’t think they’re serious about the opportunity in front of them.

This is quite the insane interpretation.
is it really? A tweet that basically said "I'm so glad that school didn't offer me" can't possibly be conceived as being a negative in your eyes?

The kid made a joke
...seems like a self deprecating joke at that.
The coach seems to lack intelligence.

I think anyone who is reasonable interprets it as him mocking all his attention whore peers who run to social media to announce they were offered on their visit.

Yeah and like I said I don't personally interpret it that way. Just saying it's easily conceivable how that 1 sentence tweet could be taken in a mocking kind of way.
I mean think of it in terms of actual rivalries. A kid who grew up a bama fan with his whole family being die hard bama fans his whole life going to a camp at AU and saying "I'm blessed to report..I did NOT receive an offer from Auburn
" I mean I think most people that knew the details of his personal life would probably take that as a funny jab taken at AU. It's really not a gigantic suspension of belief to think something similar was going on here. Which, again....I don't actually think it was.

no, what you are looking at is how they walk onto the field, because once they leave the locker room, thats the job interview....
it would be like watching how they walk from the house to the car before coming to the interview

No, I’m evaluating them from the second I have the opportunity to start observing them. I hire for a large corporation. I saw a guy running late for an interview speed into a handicap spot because he knew he was late, should I not evaluate him until he sits for the interview or is his behavior before the interview valid for assessing?

you explain to me how the frick a kid walking from the truck to the locker room wearing air pod matters in terms of projection in terms of hitting a damn baseball.
also how does wearing slides affect his future ability to hit a baseball

Why on Earth are you so mad at a conversation?
If a kid knows he is going on an interview - which recruiting visits are, from the moment he arrives at the facility to when he leaves, he’s being evaluated. If he dresses sloppy and is wearing AirPods, it is very easy to see how a coach can be put off by that. Employers are put off by the same things.
How this is so beyond you is confusing.

I’m glad I grew up in a time where I didn’t have to put every single thought out there on social media.

I love what this kid did made me laugh.
Anyone who follows recruiting sees every visitor post a “blessed to receive an offer from X” afterwards.
This kid is just doing opposite and making a funny joke. He’s not following the crowd he’s blazing his own path and having some fun. He’s a leader. Not influenced by the flock of sheep.
He’ll do fine in life.

Message boards and Twitter are the same thing just different eras and methods. Kids use twitter like posters use message boards. Its just that twitter is faster and more people see it.

im not but if you talk to enough coaches...they literally will find anything to be upset about

i wasnt talking about going on a recruiting visit. if a kid does that on a recruiting visit...absolutely...dont offer because he doesnt understand situations
i was talking...recruiter shows up 2 hours early to a game, kid shows up in his truck, gets out to walk to the locker room and he has his air pods in. not talking stepping on the field, being in the dugout or even leaving the locker room with them in. im talking drive up in truck, walk to locker room and change and have them in
or a recruiter stays after the game and sees him wearing slides or birkenstocks while in street clothes after changing and saying....that kid isnt serious.
if you are in uniform...ok i somewhat get it, still think its dumb so long as he only wears that to locker room but its not like he can or should be wearing spikes or cleats in. so what is the difference between wearing open toe shoes or tennis shoes to go from your truck to the locker room?
nobody said anything about looking sloppy.

its not beyond me, you are not understanding what i am saying. im not talking a recruiting visit
im talking recruiter shows up to hs way early to watch game or showing up to a travel tournament and getting mad a kid has airpods in while siting in the stands 2 hours before the game.

a high school linebacker coach tried to shame him for likes so he can get famous and score his own offer.
Twitter coaches are insufferable.
Without looking, I bet that guy has a “cool” background banner on his Twitter homepage showing 3 different action shots of him coaching with a backwards visor, sunglasses, and a headset on and has him labeled as “_HS LBs coach and Assistant JV DC” in fancy bold font

Yeah, different scenario. I’m speaking toward the OP about participating in an on campus event, you’re on something else.

I think it’s harmless… with that said everyone on here would advise THEIR son not to do this regardless of it being a joke “self deprecating “ or not

Feeling can be mutual. While they’re evaluating the kid, the kid evaluates them.

Speaking of GVSU. Brian Kelly (LSU favorite) won 2 straight national titles there and then went to CMU.

Blessed to not get an offer because it motivates him to work harder
