Great report and thread worth reading, the Cato boys are pissed at just how little Trump has reduced not only illegal but legal immigration.
But yah, Trump has done nothing on immigration according to the experts here

They have slowed down in deporting them though, ever since the Minnesota stuff went down. Jesse Kelly was talking about on his show tonight. He wasn't too pleased about it and I agree with him...it's time to ramp it up, not slow down.

Define “legal”. Because assholes crossing border and being able to stay here indefinitely until they get a hearing because they used an app doesn’t really qualify as “legal” in my book. Same with “asylum seekers” or “refugees”.

Based on the link you added, they are considering asylum seekers and refugees as the legal immigration that Trump cut. Anybody with an unbiased view knows those were BS claims that the Biden admin accepted to give illegals a legal path to be in the country.

Ice arrests were averaging 40k a month in 2025. In the first 3 months of 2026 they are averaging 180k a month. So ICE arrests alone are up 450%. So whoever keeps pushing the narrative that things have slowed down is straight out lying.

A lot of the "legal" immigration shouldn't be legal
Of course, what did anyone think CATO is going to say? They are 100% establishment though they would have you believe otherwise.
To be fair though, I would maybe allow more legal immigration if only people would come here through the legal channels. A news flash: they just don't do that. And Indians will always game the system.

LOL. Nothing, and I mean nothing, that The Cato Institute puts out on immigration can be trusted or believed. They are full on cheerleaders for open borders and unrestricted illegal immigration.

If true, I would love to have a link in support of the data.
Or an explanation of why you can’t post it .

Going by border patrol arrests is a stupid metric because if the border is locked down less people cross it in order to be arrested

I think net immigration flows is the one area where Trump, by basically everyone's standards, has done a good job.
There are things to complain about on immigration, primarily deportations not occuring at the rate needed to counter the Biden Invasion and H1-Bs, but we're so far ahead of where we were under Biden it can only be described as a resounding success.

Cato institute has been busted constantly with bullshite numbers and data to make studies fit their agenda. FYI their agenda is open borders. They want immigration legal and illegal.
Cato is a Marxist institution now

Uh oh, Cato fricked up.
Trump is the only one to do anything about H1b.
It's funny because their post is full of what Trump has done to curb immigration.
Lol, the TDS just never stops. Asylum seekers down, refugees down, H1bs down.
Trump is saving the country.
This is what I fricking voted for.

H-1B visas for skilled workers are also down, largely because Trump imposed a $100K fee to hire any H-1B worker entering from abroad.

Because they're libertarian. The stupid kind that doesn't quite grasp you can have a generous social safety net, or open borders. Never both.
Of course the follow on argument from their kind is "well, we need to focus on free immigration first, then work on eliminating social programs." Also the mark of a fricking idiot.
