Tunnel Vision Challenge results!

We've been overwhelmed with the amazing submissions…so we are announcing three winners!

The Thrilling Three are:
- NOLA Loop (New Orleans, LA)
- Ravens Loop (Baltimore, MD)
- University Hills Loop (Dallas, TX)

What happens next? TBC and the project stakeholders enter into a rigorous diligence process which includes:
- Meetings with elected officials, regulators, community leaders, and business leaders
- Geotechnical borings
- Utility and subsurface infra investigation

Once the diligence (100% funded by TBC) is complete, if all 3 projects are feasible, will fund/build all 3 - this would be awesome. If only 1 is feasible, will fund/build 1.

IN ADDITION, there were multiple other projects that TBC thought were so compelling that we are going to continue to work with the entrants and try to get them built. This includes the following two:
- Hendersonville Utility Tunnel (Hendersonville, TN)
- Morgan's Wonderland Tunnel (San Antonio, TX)

Thanks again to all of the participants - your enthusiasm and positivity has been inspiring for the TBC team.

Almost certainly picked because of the challenges involved with doing it in that area. Boring has been pushing their limits lately.

I have some supreme doubt it ever happens once Musk has to start dealing with LA/NOLA politicians and red tape

They also said they were making the hyper loop in TX, before the pandemic, and it's been crickets since. Believe it when you see work being done.

Boring is already doing the work in other cities. Including some that have been real logistical challenges.

The Nashville one if I recall they were very worried about some of the issues involved. But they are doing it literally right now

We will see with NOLA. Its almost certainly years and years away, and I have doubts on whether it is even technologically feasible. I think that's EXACTLY why they picked it, they are trying to push to make it work in all kinds of environments

community leaders

these are gonna be the problem. I still don't know what purpose "community leaders" serve when it comes to major shite like this. Like yeah Old Man Johnson down on the corner has lived here 70 years and is well respected on the block but wtf is he gonna know about tunnel infrastructure lol

Teedy wanted this from City Hall to the city's Pontalba Apartment.

The old Belle Chasse tunnel is a great example...but the Harvey never had the problems that Belle Chasse had.

There's a big tunnel under Harrah's Casino (was going to originally be part of a riverfront expressway) and several other smaller underground garages. Plus traffic tunnels in Harvey and Belle Chasse. So, the functional technology and feasibility has been there for some time.

I'm curious as to the idea of where this would be to best meet the "usefulness" criteria, though.

What would be the point of putting a tunnel loop in New Orleans? What purpose would it serve?

I am assuming this would be much more substantial

I haven't seen what it is actually going to consist of
