I forgot all about that guy. That stubborn SOB is the perfect example of cutting your nose off to spite your face.

The internet says he had over 60 offers for the house. Upwards of $900,000.
Another was $500,000 + a nearby house and a car.

Another news station that doesn’t cover actual news.

What a fricking idiot. Let's choose to be miserable rather than selling and buying something 5 times as nice.

$900,000.
Where do I sign and what door do you want me to walk out of?

Good for him! When he dies, someone will get rich.

I thought he’d have better offers than that.
Not that I wouldn’t sell. I don’t quite get his position. The parents have passed. They lived the American dream and set up their son for a wonderful life.
He had an opportunity to keep that momentum going. Find something else to keep that represents your family’s legacy.

Had a similar situation in Zachary with a guy that wouldn’t sell to make way for 4 lane highway at a round about. His house butts right up to the round about now. He has to be miserable with the traffic noise.

He should tell them that he will give the house up for the entire top floor of the hotel with no additional charges for anything, including meals, parking, room service, etc, then he’ll get to see the sun rise and set again.

I wonder if the developers have a plan for the space.
If they built everything out with a plan for someday in the future when he or his family after he dies finally sell out.

$900l doesn’t seem like all that much for prime real estate. Nothing to sneeze at but not at offer you can’t refuse level. Can’t believe he stayed through all of the construction though. That’s the craziest part to me.

He will never be able to sell it now.

And he has, or at least had, a passive aggressive sign up about it despite trying to gouge the parish who made an offer to him.

He didn't want to sell, and he shouldn't have to.
Being surrounded by big buildings should keep his house shaded and protected from hurricanes. So there's that.

Reminds me of an old man I know who lives near a chemical plant. They offered him well about what his 4 acres are worth, but it is where he grew up and where his parents lived..
I guess it gives these type of people some sense of being in control, but shite evolves. Take the money and evolve with it.

This guy's an a-hole. Coral Gables is some of the most sought after real estate in the US. Sell it and move on. His parents probably paid 11k for it 50 years ago. It's not like his family settled that land in the Pioneer days.

The sign is gone now. I think the roundabout made him have to relocate his driveway but it isn’t nearly the situation in the OP.
