Time to cut that little chemistry out of me. For good.

Kidding on rehab. Sort of.

On Day 4.

All good. But 2nd month has gotten me before.

Any tips or tricks to sustaining long term no simple sugars in diet?

Much appreciated!

It’s really not sustainable in my opinion.

I think you’re better off aiming for a generally low carb diet with one cheat meal a week you can look forward to.

It is my absolute biggest Achilles heel. Especially if I'm awake after around 10pm. I'll destroy any cookies, candy, etc. that's in my house. I do manage to burn enough calories during exercise throughout the week that I'm not gaining weight at least, but I wish I could do better.

There’s little you can really do. If you’re still fighting it by month 2, I’d just give up.

Get into long distance running and hit the weights heavy. At least your fitness will burn the excess calories.

Workout 4-5X per week, balance of weights and cardio, 1-1.5 hrs per day.

Yet the sucrose, maltose, and lactose…has owned me, especially nighttime. Fighting back now!

Comforting knowing not alone. However, step-change needed.

Tips & tricks welcome.

The Oikos French Vanilla yogurt, a tip this board offered years ago, is back in play. Will see!

Protein shakes
Legendary and Quest line of low sugar high protein treats (pop tarts and chocolate peanut butter cups both hit)
Yogurts with granola
Zero sugar candy (lots of options)
Zero sugar cookies

It’s better to trick the brain about sugar cravings than to try and stay away from it 100%. You might still have an insulin release but it’s basically zero and nothing like from high sugar foods.

Once your body starts losing fat, you’ll subconsciously relate this to the low sugar foods and will physically crave more of them

Go no carb for a week…preferably two. That does a lot to reset all cravings.

I quit drinking 7 years ago and started lifting and dialing in a healthier diet. But sugar craving is my weakness. I eat candy daily and ice cream occasionally. One thing that has helped has been apples. I eat the shite outta apples. I know I could be a lot leaner than I am if I could cut sugar but it’s hard as hell

Been sober 3 and didnt know about the sugar cravings, its terrible. Cheat days start with a gallon of blue bell now, try to just do that once every 4-6 weeks now though.

Just have to grit your teeth and get through it.

Don't keep any sugar type things in the house.

Get some xylitol gum to chew on after meals.

Have a little cheat treat maybe once a week.

Eat good protein and healthy fats.

If you get a sudden urge to consume some sugar, try a pinch of good quality salt.

It’s simple. Don’t buy sugars at the store. Can’t eat them if they aren’t in the house.

I’ve done sugar fasts several times, it’s my weakness as well. Sugar makes my joints hurt so bad, you’d think I could just give it up…nope. But not keeping it in the house definitely helps. I get the sugar free Worthers hard candy & have one after a meal.

I don't aim for completely cutting them out, just minimizing. I usually have a couple of cheat meals on the weekend. Gives me something to look forward to. Not keeping any sugary snacks in the house has helped with temptation. I made it through king cake season at work and only had one small piece so I call that a win.

I don't think cutting it out completely is the way to go for most, will just inevitably have large binge relapses. There is nothing wrong with a little here and there. Dehydration has a lot to do with the sugar cravings too, so one thing to do, anytime you are really craving something sweet, is to drink a glass of water and wait 10-15 minutes. If you are still really craving something, then have something. Find some good alternatives to the main culprits of your cravings that are healthier.

As some have mentioned, vanilla greek yogurt mixed with some flavored protein powders or use some of the sugar free pudding mixes has been a big help for me. There are some decent alternative brownie recipes out there too, or make some overnight oats bowls that are more dessert themed.

Eat lots of steak. Don't count calories starting, only carbohydrates. You will get adapted to where sugar makes you feel sick.

Also remember, some fruits are like eating a candy.

A baked potato converts to 9 teaspoons of sugar.

You can convert your body to utilize fat as the primary source of blood glucose.

Unlimited fatty carnivore for a week would get you a good start.
