Historically that’s definitely true but they recently struck a deal with India to bring in workers.
ETA: they’re also working to make it more difficult for foreigners to own property and ii think there was another initiative but I can’t quite recall. So they haven’t completely screwed themselves.

I did a Google search a few days ago asking how many non US citizens, particularly llegal aliens own homes in the US, Google AI says nearly 1.6 million homes are owned by illegal aliens.

Maybe they realize that they have limited resources, and choose to align their population with those resources. Sound thinking.

She was already elected back in October. I visited there at the end of October and everyone absolutely loved her - both young and old that I talked to.
This was a snap election.
Also a note, a confusing thing for people is she is part of the "Liberal Democratic party." Which over there is the conservative party. They have pretty much been in control since 1955. They had lost a bunch of ground the last few years though because most of them had basically become their version of RINOs
