We’re getting close to the point where these travel ball kid names should be showing up in the pros.
I’d like to see a study about ridiculous travel ball names verses normal names and likelihood to make the pros.

After hearing a couple of coworkers traveling to other states for their 12 year old girls travel soccer and volleyball teams, I would’ve thought the costs wouldn’t been a lot more than $16k.

Good for them, keep the economy humming

Silliest thing ever. Nothing was wrong with park and school recreation. I’d never do this. Glad it wasn’t a thing when my kids were young.

seems like the nutritionist for her son is a wise investment.
lets also detail the families that send 10k or more on spending 6 days in disney world. or above middle class families that put their 16 yr old in a 55k+ vehicle to drive to school. Or mommas that buy chick fil a and starbees for their kids 5 days a week. lets go down this slope boys.

Her kid's name is Braison. Not to sidetrack this thread but names like this are the downfall of America. Everybody's kid has to be special and unique. We can't be John or Frank or Robert or William or David anymore. frick that fatass.

Need to see the kids tape before I judge them.

Bring back the use of Saints' names.
I do know a follow up of a child who was traveled to play ice hockey when he was in grade school. Lots of money to go several states away from his home in the Carolinas.
Didn't get a college scholarship. Didn't go to college. Currently employed as a bar tender in Denver mostly there for weed.

These are people with no self control, they aren't doing it for their children, they are doing it for themselves.
My kid is in travel, we spend maybe 2k a year. A year, not season.

If you think about it, naming follows a distinct American obsession with denigrating your family and uplifting yourself.
Those names were passed down.

I swear its always only child families.
We have some friends like this. One child, spending a fortune on sports. Always talking about how great their child is at the sport they play. Its annoying.

I just made it through with two boys. Girls travel dance is worse. I can tell you from experience that playing local, different sports and getting on a great conditioning program is more beneficial and cheaper.

There is now. No middle school baseball and rec leagues are mostly kids who have never played.

We’ve got one on the way, and when I tell people his name, I always get a split second pause when it was obvious they were listening for something “interesting and unique” and what they just heard was a traditional name

wonder how many parents substitute parenting and just spend a shitton on their kid?
"we did EVERYTHING for him!"
"we did EVERYTHING for him!"

Was it really necessary to move to travel ball? I understand it allows for playing unknown teams and stretching the teams. But didn’t college and professional players once come from schools and park rec? And the latter allowed for community and friendships locally.
