IF Trump can get rid of federal income tax it will forever reshape the size of the federal government. It will greatly limit it and if Democrats try to reimpose federal income tax it would be political suicide. Of course they will try to implement other taxes but implementing new taxes has always been extremely difficult. That is Trump’s ultimate game changer if he can accomplish it through tariffs

If you believe federal income tax can be replaced by tariffs, I've got a very large bridge to sell you.

1. Tariffs would not generate enough revenue to replace income taxes.

2. Income taxes will never be replaced.

Talk is cheap. By the way, the IRC didn't shrink after the TCJA or the OBBB, but sure.

You’re forgetting something.

IF Trump can replace income taxes with tariffs, he can also invent a pill that makes it possible for you to shoot 100 dollar bills out of your arse.

In fact, that might be a little bit easier for him to do.

The pills will be orange, and big (Youge, in fact) but if you can swallow the lie that we will ever not have income tax, you can swallow the pill.

Tariffs don’t need to “replace” income tax, that’s the point, Congress can make do, like the rest of us when we have a cut in funds

Probably not, it’s not in the interest of Congress, see the above point

Doubtful. Spending hasn't been constrained by revenues via the income tax. Why would it by tariff revenue?

BTW, unless the 16th Amendment is repealed, this will never stick.

He can't, so everything else you said is moot.

Correct

And it benefits corporations that can lobby to carve out specific things in the tax code to give them an advantage

You couldn't even get a flat income tax for this reason

A lot of money would be made in local taxes as people spend more though. This would be great.

You earn 1000$ from your employer

Your employer withholds federal income tax.

Depending on your state, your employer also holds state income tax.

You then use what your left with to buy goods. Those goods are also taxed.

Own a home? Own your land? Property tax.

Not what our founding fathers intended.

Oh, but at least we have credit cards and 30 year mortgages!

He'd also need to drastically cut federal spending, or the debt would skyrocket and we'd default.

This right here.A few weeks ago Kudlow had an economist on and he was asked that question. His reply was federal spending is about 22% of GDP. For tariffs to relace the income tax you'd need to get it down to 3%.
Just ain't happening.

Sign me up! That might be something I'm willing to march through the streets for. And all of these "no king" fools would probably oppose it.
