Are we ever going to get back to this talent in music again?

I went down the YouTube rabbit hole and keyed into the Charasmatic Voice channel. She recently did this review of the Prince Super Bowl halftime show and it’s worth watching. She’s an accomplished opera singer, and she critiquels vocal alent for a lot of older bands. Cute girl and great channel.
How have we gone from to this farom where we are now?
ETA: the Prince Super Bowl halft8me performance was the GOAT

2025 was actually a pretty great year for new music.

The answer is no. 95% of “artists” today are prepackaged, manufactured “talent”. Producers and labels pick who they want to be stars, package them up into an image and then force them down our throat and tell us we like them. For instance, Taylor Swift. She has a marketing machine behind her and that’s the only reason she’s so big. I’d hate to see the deal she made with the devil when she sold her soul. It all started with Britney. Hell, even The Voice has autotune microphones.
Gone are the days when singers and bands had to start from scratch, pay their dues and hope to be discovered. Then, only the cream rose to the top. Go watch the Bon Jovi documentary and that’s how it used to be. Guys scraping by, honing their talents for years, just hoping for a shot.
There are way more talented people out there today that never make it because they weren’t handpicked.

My jaw is to the floor as I just finished watching this halftime bowl performance what a fricking coincidence….

Funny, I was just watching her reaction to A-Ha's acoustic version of Take On Me. Brilliant song that's amazing stripped down and slowed down a little bit.

I have a huge crush on the Charismatic Voice chick.

Music is dead. I grew up on Elvis & Tommy James & the Shondells (born in '81).
No radio station will play anything prior to the 70's and modern music just sucks.
90's alternative still has a place in my heart, but hasn't aged well.

For what it’s worth she’s a pretty talented girl songwriter wise. Might not be targeted towards any of us but at least she had a few albums as the sole songwriter and plays an instrument or two.

Doesn’t keep old folks around here from incorrectly thinking he’s the GOAT.

Talent is out there you just have to make the effort to find it....

I think this is probably true, while the overall point is still correct.
It seems to be more of an industry problem. The role of music producers and arrangers has significantly been reduced.
When you think about the role of people like Quincy Jones, and many many more, along with the use of studio musicians like the Wrecking Crew, good talent is not being developed or made to shine like it used to be.

I don’t believe you have any idea of just how good of a musician Prince actually was. He could play a bunch of instruments and I believe he played every one used in the recording of his debut album.
In addition to all of his own music, he also wrote a handful of popular songs for other artists.

The industry needs to make a profit.
Unfortunately, today the most profitable music is not the most talented.
Thankfully the cream will eventually rise to the top.

Don’t waste your time, Pirate King is universally regarded as the single worst poster on this entire website.

There's no financial incentive for the entertainment industry to seek out real talent.
Music as a consumer product is basically McDonald's as a food product.
They mass produce garbage for the masses to consume and the only concern is how profitable it is. Theyll start AI generating it when they can because it's even cheaper.

Fil on Wings of Pegasus channel does vocal analysis on videos to see if they are live or Memorex. Turns out that a lot of artists aren't performing live vocals, including Taylor Swift.
Rick Beato is another great channel that exposes the business side of the industry.

She’s a smoke show. Early on I watched her and she said one time she’s big into Cos play and always dressing up around the house. Damn
