Clean stores, quality items, and clean, pleasant employees who want to help. And all of the signage in English only. No loudspeaker blaring out the entire time. Some of them also sell ammo.

And the cherry on top, the employees had made the effort to actually unlock both front doors to the store (see reference thread here)

It really does. I find myself preferring to shop there over other stores frequently.

Go to the Ace website and let them know which store you went to that was such a good experience. It will probably help out the manager/employee who was there.

It’s still mostly Chinese crap but as far as current corporate hardware stores go they aren’t so bad.

My son worked at one for a couple of years while in college. He enjoyed it. Good managers and co-workers. He learned a lot.

Still feels like the 90’s in there. Which is awesome.

The problem is the one close to me closes at noon on Saturdays. Good for their employees, but bad for me cause I always have to go the hardware store at least twice when working on a project.

Love mine...big thing is if you can't find what you need...damn near everyone in the store knows where it is.

All the employees actually look happy too, which makes things better too.

Doesn't hurt that mine has a popcorn machine with pretty fresh bags of popcorn at the front door and the ability to fill propane tanks...can fill a propane tank higher than what you get at Blue Rhino cages for more than half the price.

Mostly agree, but every once in a while the employees basically try and shop for you, which can be annoying. I know it’s a company policy to be helpful, but sometimes I just want to wander around and don’t need a personal shopper.

At the Ace closest to my house, they’ll ask if you need help every two minutes.

If you really want to make an ACE employee happy, ask to get a piece of glass cut.

I always get the impression that’s one of the toys they don’t get to use very often.

We have three ACE Hardware stores in Fayetteville, they are all great. I prefer them to Lowes or HD every day of the week.

The employees at Lowe’s and Home Depot have become as useful as poop flavored lollipop. Love my ace.

You really get the impression that the local owners are deciding how to operate the shop a bit more than a boardroom of Duke business school graduates in Manhattan with only minimum wage clock watchers at the actual store.

One of the few stores left like that in small towns like where my Mom lives in Florida. All the locations near me in Brooklyn NY have a very hometown feel too, seems to be many extended family members working there.

Yeah, most of the actual products aren't any better than Home Depot but I still go there every time I can.

Shout out to Shaw Ace Hardware in Oxford, MS

It’s like going back in time to a good hardware store in 1975.

PS: Bonus accepted for the tree fiddy on my image.
