If Baker gets HC job and Durkin off the board already …WHO are BEST DC Candidates ?

I know someone mentioned Leonard earlier (Old Wisconsin DC) but who else ??

People mention Durkin a lot, and he is good, but I’d also really be interested in Scott Symons from SMU.
His defenses are at the top of the country in a lot of categories + I don’t think it would be hard to convince him to move to LSU over SMU.

Bryant Haines from Indiana.

Any news on what Baker is doing? LSU needs to know what direction they are headed.

Also, Jim Leonhard couldn’t be less interested in being a DC for LSU or anyone else.

Shiel Wood from Texas Tech. Tech definitely has the money to match but he's a Southerner.

Shiel Wood; he did good work at Tulane.

Don’t be surprised if we look at NFL guys.

He’s obviously leaving. That’s why our biggest defensive recruits aren’t signing

Call Saban and make him say no. Then he gives you a certified 5+ star coach in his place.

Shiel Wood
Dude takes trash defenses and makes them elite in year 1

I don't know. It's hard to pull NFL guys back down to the College unless it's a position coach that really wants to become a DC. Plus that would be a hard sell here after Matt House.

Ryan Walters. Had good defenses at Missouri. Then really good defenses at Illinois. He’s in his first year at Washington and has them just outside the top 20.

We were lucky to land him after Guidry bounced after like a week.
When we hired him I looked up his resume and was shocked. I think he would be one of the first coaches I'd call if I was Kiffin.

If a "can't miss" big name isn't available, I like the idea of reaching into the G5 for an experienced guy that has a solid record. We know Lane will have the offense fixed so I wouldn't be opposed to looking for someone outside the recycled names.
Vince Kehres was mentioned before. He's the DC/LB coach at Toledo and has done really well there. They have one of the best defensive pass stop rates in FBS. He was a DIII HC prior and had a 95-6 record. In 7 seasons his worst year he lost 2 games. Some guys can just coach.
He runs a 4-2-5 hybrid which is similar to Baker so it would be an easy transition

Tulane will not announce anything until next week to avoid distractions for the conference championship game. Can’t blame them. They’re not concerned with LSU’s timetable.
