Paywall article linked.
Per Wilson Alexander.
LSU and Lane Kiffin agreed to a seven-year, $91 million deal, according to a copy of his term sheet. If he wins a national title, it includes an automatic escalator that makes him the highest-paid coach in the country.

How does an automatic escalator work if two different coaches have that in their contracts?
I know Kirby has one.

the initial bump satisfies the contract, then Kirby would get a bump in response.

What about the incentive based pay Landry was talking about?

Coach Kiffin need someone to run him coffee for a mini percentage of that?

What if the escalator goes down to the basement?
What then?

What if I built a wooden boat and sailed it to Oxford.

Let's see how great a deal we struck on the buyout close after the governor mouthed off about Kelly's and then LSU tried to weasel out of its obligation. Surely we struck a harder bargain as a result:
Oh.

quote:
In a news conference a few days after Kelly was fired, Gov. Jeff Landry criticized high-priced coaching contracts with large buyouts. He suggested more deals should be weighted with performance-based incentives that would reduce the guaranteed cost and lower the price to fire a coach. Landry called Kelly’s lofty buyout a “liability.”
LSU would owe Kiffin 80% of his remaining salary if it fires him without cause, which would be paid out in monthly installments through the remainder of the deal. It does not include any mitigation or offset clause should Kiffin then get another job.
Oh.

I know Kirby has one.
the escalator only makes you highest paid "at the time", not permanently highest paid.
example:
UGA wins a title this year, Kirby gets a bump to the very top of the mountain.
LSU wins title next season, Kiffin gets bumped above Kirby. Kirby does not get bumped back to top unless he wins another one.
