EBR needs to build a bigger prison. I’d vote a tax for that or use of library funds

EBR needs to build a bigger prison

Population has grown and there is no room for some of this trash to be put pending trial so they get lower bonds to get out.

Raid dedicated parish wide tax funds for this. I would even vote for a new dedicated tax for this.

Put some cells up in the libraries and use them as jails

The only people that use them are hobos anyway. Might as well give them 3 hots and a cot

To make it worse, the larger cities swamp other parishes prisons with overflow, leading to a domino effect of bed shortages across the state. So not only is EBR full and letting people skate on low bonds, it’s causing smaller parishes to do the same too.

Think there is plenty of room at Guantanamo Bay. Ship thugs over and leave them.

Probably so

Let’s see how this Thrive thing goes. BREC should be the next target.

We don’t need higher taxes, we need to shuffle the deck and prioritize where our tax dollars go.

Broome should’ve used all those COVID dollars to get this going.

No way the public will vote yes on a new tax for a prison. We wouldn’t even vote yes to fund the DA’s office.

Crime has real root causes, and libraries definitely aren’t one of them. Honestly, funding libraries does way more to prevent crime long-term than throwing more money at prisons. If you think libraries are the problem, you probably need to look into it more. The Thrive vote is messy, but a yes vote seems like the better option

If libraries prevent crime, BR would be one of the safest city’s in America.

We have a frick ton of libraries throughout the city/EBRP.

We just need to start shooting more criminals.

Bigger need is a pre trial Juvenile facility similar to the Florida parish facility. There isn’t anywhere to lock up juvenile offenders. The EBR facility holds 20. It cost almost $300 per day to house a juvenile outside the parish. The only ones that get locked up are for aggravated rape or murder.

Not just prisons. I did weekend dispatch for a small town city PD back in the early 90s and we had a guy being held for either EBR or City of BR, I think he was there for at least a year or two. The PD was paid by either the city or parish for housing him.

I’m down for that. Death penalty crimes need to be expanded.

Sounds good. Let’s do both.

bullshite. Libraries are only used by homeless to charge their cell phones and suck up the ac/heat. I would never let someone i cared about step foot in a public library.

It doesn't matter if you would vote for a property tax or not, as long as they allow non-property owners and vagrants, or whoever, to vote.

Why do you keep spouting off half truths?

I’m opposed to using Parish wide collected tax on City issues. We need a bigger Parish prison. I would approve of using library funds to make that happen.

What I don’t like is funding BR City police pensions with Parish wide collected tax dollars.

They want the whole Parish to bail out the City of BR.

Almost 73% of the funds will be going for that.

BR needs to cut their expenses or raise taxes on themselves. Not break open the library piggy bank. Taking candy from babies.
