all day while I wasn’t there. After retiring, I found out that those were some sleeping arse mofos, living the good life!

I think you knew this before you retired.

Must not be a working breed.

I watch mine on the cameras. Right now, two are chilling the porch and the other two are chasing something, probably a squirrel.

same

I assumed they were running around on the property living it up. What they actually do is sleep on the furniture

Was wondering if my dog was "normal"

Sleep estimates for certain breeds:

Small breeds (e.g., Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers): 12-16 hours
Medium breeds (e.g., Golden Retrievers, Labradors): 10-14 hours
Large breeds (e.g., Great Danes, Mastiffs): 18-20 hours

That's the reason we have Pits. The peace of mind knowing that they're out there eating children all day and not being lazy assses.

Mine has been eating turds out of the litter box while I'm gone, usually immediately after I leave the house. I know this because I sometimes forget something and have to come home, and like clockwork, I catch her with her head in the litter box every damn time. This has been going on for over a decade.

I know for a fact my beagle sleeps all day and all night. I don't know how they do it.

My Aussie goes outside after dark and spends each night on "patrol". She runs off everything that gets near the house. When I wake up, I call her in and she gives me a big greeting then goes to bed.

I am looking forward to the day when I can sip my morning coffee and figure out what me and the dogs are doing that day.

I work from home and see my two all day.

They fight with each other dramatically about three times a day. Little one barks at the dogs next door on occasion. Otherwise sleep, eat, drink, pee.

They had a big morning today menacing the plumber working on our garbage disposal.

Got a blink camera set up and I'll check it during the day and normally they're sleeping but they'll from time to time be doing some hilarious stuff. I'll catch my boy frenchie up on the kitchen table. Caught him chewing on my shoe. Seeing them get the random zoomies is pretty good stuff.

My GSD can't sleep longer than 30 minutes without protecting me from some imaginary treat.

GSDs are the ultimate canine IMO. Unlike a Malinois, GSDs have an off switch.

But they dont always use it lol...

I've trained my dogs to do the household chores while I'm gone. Laundry, Dishes, mowing grass, etc.
If they're going to live under my roof for free, they must contribute.

I remember once we had a class on animal behavior. The instructor was regaling us with a story about a client of theirs.

The client's dog was usually quiet and low energy medium size dog. However whenever the client left the dog alone the house would be rearranged. All the couch cushions, throw pillows, bed pillows, would be skewed about the house. It was driving her insane. The behaviorist set cameras up to record the mystery behavior.

We got to watch the footage. For about 2 hours straight, IMMEDIATELY after the client left the house, this dog proceeded to hump the shite out of every cushion/pillow in the house. Im talking about going out of frame, and returning in frame scooting along the ground humping. Once its job was done the dog collapsed in exhaustion.

it was an amusing day in class.
