And region? With citrus season coming up, looking to expand my horizons with different varieties. I have become fond of tangelos if and when I can find them in their peak (usually December/January)

As temperature drops and the weather gets colder, I usually get mine on the way to the woods in Dec/January.

Traditionally I’ll go with Safety but have been wanting to try NatGear hi-viz.

Navel oranges ripen in Nov/Dec I think. Really solid choice.

cara cara

/thread.

If you are including things other than true oranges like satsumas/mandarins... then the answer is still cara cara.

We have some great orange options in Louisiana. Hamlin sweet is the traditional Louisiana orange. I have cara cara, valencia, moro blood and washington navel in addition to hamlin sweet. They all produce well and with the varieties you can have oranges just about year round. It's hard to grow a bad orange among the named varieties.

Louisiana satsumas. Unfortunately, last year's freezing temps killed my tree. Thanks, global warming.

Sumo Citrus is by far the best tasting orange I've ever had. But they are expensive. It's the Harry and David of oranges. Sam's had them several months ago for around $9 a six pack but everywhere else I ever found them they were about $4 each but worth every penny.

Blood orange...girlfriends dad has best I've ever had. Unfortunately, the snow last year killed the tree.

Plaquemines Parish oranges were always a holiday season favorite, and great in Old Fashioneds, but after Katrina, freezes, and disease they aren't as easy to find like in the past. I buy them when they are available.
