Saban isn't coming...
Meyer isn't coming...
Lanning isn't coming...
And Kiffin is too expensive for what he brings to the table...

There's no one else.

Maybe you hire the guy from [insert smaller school here] and you get the 1 in 1000 diamond in the rough, but more than likely it doesn't work out and we're back to looking in 3 years. I think that's the harsh reality no one on this board wants to face.

Nah it's the going rate for prime rib these days. I hope he chooses LSU but if we get Saban for 3-4 years and he chooses successor that to me is the absolute best case scenario. I'll take either

Meh, it’s always a crap shoot. Even with the “big names.”

They could have Ed O back if LSU just promised to pay off his bar tab at the local scrip club.

Just who were you expecting ? We weren't ever getting those guys. We're gonna have to do our homework and figure out who the next guy is. All of those guys you mentioned didn't start out as head coaches in the college game. All were assistants at one time.

Were you expecting Sirianni or Reid as the new head coach ?

Great… in 3 years, feel free to start a new thread with the candidates.

For now, we’re looking for a head coach.

You don’t buy out Kelly if you were expecting the same outcomes and having to hire again in a few years.

The money people pulled the trigger because the felt like they had something. Maybe Saban, maybe Kiffin…. I don’t know….

But I doubt their idea was “let’s buy out Kelly and hire a guy we can fire in 3 years”

I’m gonna be hopeful and think we are gonna get a great HC. Obviously that could change after someone is hired…. You would think and hope after a 50 million dollar possible buyout they are thinking the same thing. Let’s trust them until at least a coach is hired. I am going to be positive

Whether this is a bad coaching cycle may not be determined until a couple of seasons have passed.

Kelly and Riley were thought to be solid hires as were Ruhl, Herman and Fisher to some extent. On paper they were thought to be cant miss hires.

Other schools who settled for lesser known coaches and coordinators are killing it right now.

The best 2 coaches in college football Ryan Day and Kirby Smart had no coaching experience before they were hired. We could go that route and hire an elite coordinator. I’d be ok with doing this

Good thing about that is you can cut them loose pretty easily and quickly if they don’t work out.
