Then why is he talking since that's what's happened with Kelly and is going to happen again?

95% of his salary was privately funded.

LSU and by default the state, are on the hook for his buyout. One of them has to pay it.

For the opportunity to get his face out there and politic. He’s a self-serving idiot.

We've seen multiple people on this board state pretty much exactly that.

Let’s say there’s no private donor for the sake of argument. If the LSU Athletic Department paid the entire buyout without any extra funding from private donors, would you describe that as “the state” paying his buyout?

Then refuse to buy out the next coach until someone privately comes forward to foot the bill. Kind of like what just happened. If things got bad enough wouldn't someone else come forward? I'm just asking.

If things got bad enough the athletic department would just have less money for hiring coaches, or facilities upgrades, or revenue sharing, or whatever. It could be bad for LSU athletics but it would not require any state funding.

ETA: Which was kind of my point. You can say “the state” is paying for it because that’s effectively saying that SEC distributions, stadium sponsorships, ticket revenue, etc. are “state money.” It’s dumb. The athletic department generates their own funding.
