BK was not Scotts first choice. Look at how the other choices panned out.

Before hiring Brian Kelly, LSU considered Jimbo Fisher and Lincoln Riley as primary targets, and also considered other candidates. Jimbo Fisher: Was considered the top target by LSU's athletic director, but he remained at Texas A&M. Lincoln Riley: Was another major target, but he ended up taking the head coaching job at USC instead Mel Tucker: Was also mentioned as a candidate, having previously been an LSU assistant and leading Michigan State to an 11-2 record in his second season.
Dave Aranda: Was another name in the mix, having led Baylor to a 12-2 record and a Big 12 title. Woodard picked BK after his other choices rejected his offers. These first choices have not panned out so well either. So how do you get a guaranteed Nick Saban quality coach? Truth is you can't. Selection has to be based on past performance. It is the best criteria we have but it is what it is. Just as in financial investing, past performance is not a guarantee of the future performance. In NIL era what % of the available funds go to coaching and what goes to "purchasing quality athletes" I do not have an answer but I hope someone at LSU does. I am afraid it has gotten to the point that the schools with the deepest pockets will prevail.

1) you have zero clue if any of that shite is true

2) as far as deep pockets, we spent 18million on the fricking roster. that is #3 overall for cost of roster for this season

does the team on the field look like the fricking #3 team? Only one that did saturday night was the A&M team that beat the frick out of us

I know Peter Burns of SEC network suggested hiring Nick Saban as a consultant in the search process. I like this idea, if they could get him to do it, as he would have a significant input on identifying coaching qualities that effect outcomes. Hope they investigate this possibility.

You do not know any of this. It's all message board fodder.

Just because you read this on the rant or on facebook, doesn't make any of this true.

Would love that but isn’t Saban still on salary at Alabama also in an advisory type role?

That may be a conflict of interest.

Wasn’t Tom Herman at one time considered for the LSU job?

Kelly’s deal was done and agreed upon before the season ended

The Riley smoke was there because they have the same agent and he was negotiating with USC the entire time

I’ll eat my crow. I wanted Napier very bad when we got Kelly. I was worried about him going to Florida. Truly believed he was a fantastic coach. Big whiff on my part

Seemed reasonable at the time. He did well at UL, had worked for Saban. Good resume, youngish, some recruiting chops. A major SEC program came to the same conclusion you did.

I never believed he was in serious contention for the job here.

nick saban wanted us to hire Houston Nutt as his replacement. Nutt was a great game coach but didn't recruit. he came in and won with the players that were already there. Would LSU itself have helped him in recruiting?

I don't think it ever works well to let a coach pick his successor

Riley I believe was the only true rejection.

I hope so because Fisher, Tucker, and Aranda were all pretty bad options even back then.

I still believe Nick suggested Nutt because he knew Nutt would fail and if Nick wanted to come back after the NFL, the job could be open.
