Baker is overrated. He’s very good but not great, let’s be honest.

Even at Mizzou he was a very good DC but struggled against mobile QBs. Nothing has changed there and he has even more talent at LSU than he did before.
He will do fine against mid tier offensive talented teams or teams struggling that have non-mobile QBs, but any legitimate dual-threat QB is going to shred him 7 or 8 out of 10 times. He just has not shown the adjustments to make the stops with those opponents.
That said, he is worlds better than Sloan and actually deserved to be hired. He simply is not worth the money he is getting.
Sloan on the other hand is not deserving of his position at all and is everything that is wrong with college football.

Saban called him out on game day.

He has some weaknesses but there aren’t many dominant Ds in college football anymore ,UGA has tons of defensive talent and they’re getting gashed weekly, his D is not among the bigger reasons we’re out of the playoff race in mid October

Details. I didn't see it but interested in the commentary

Pavia had lanes open so wide he could have run more often than he did. On the one he scored (or got down to the 1), you could have taxied a prop plane through that hole.
And the little toss pass to the TE on 3rd and goal from the 1. An 8-year old girl could have caught that pass. Luckily, they didn't run that play often, or it would have been much worse.

It seems like he can’t compete against the elite offensive play callers. He gets outcoached. But, that’s nothing new with this regime.

Yesterday's 24 points is a season high scored against the 6 FBS opponents the Tigers have played.
What a fricking disgrace.

A couple of things, the D feasted on weak offenses early in the season, and they are now dealing with some key injuries. The biggest problem for LSU on both O & D is that they don't seem to be developing young players and are depending on NIL transfers..

Georgia tech exposed, Georgia’s defense last year and now teams ride the blue print. Which seems to be a theme,
Coaches are putting in the work to win, it’s painfully obvious when they aren’t scheming and just trying to put a square block into a circle because that’s what they hope can win them the game.
Really missing our depth on our line is crucial, we already have a small d line across the board so we needed the numbers.

Our D was complete garbage yesterday. It had one good half against Ole Miss. It has been good the rest of the year, but then again, Clemson, UF and SC have struggled mightily on offense against most teams.
I don't think he mixes things up enough. Against the better teams, his D has struggled going back to last year.

My perception is that his weakness is mobile QBs. Couple those with solid play callers (ie Kiffin) and he gets wrecked. I do think he has done a solid job but they struggle to maintain lanes and put a spy on a mobile QB.

Vandy feasted on Bamas D as well. The difference is that Bama hung 40 on Vandys pathetic defense.

He has weaknesses, but you are seeing struggles defensively throughout the game now. Almost all the rules favor offenses now. I would like to see him begin to look stronger against running QB’s.

Yesterday was the first bad game the defense had.

Baker is your issue BUT he’s not some genius either
Injuries hurt too

Time of Possession matters, even more so when you are missing key players.
The defense stayed on the field most of the game yesterday and that made a difference in the fourth quarter

Every single team struggles with these. You just need to outscore them.
Baker would get another DC job tomorrow, Sloan would be selling insurance.

Hi Defense is heavily reliant on players in the correct alignment and running through the correct gaps. Our LBs and Star was not on the same page at all

They were awful for the majority of the game vs Ole Miss. Ole Miss shot themselves in the foot to keep that game close.
As others said, he’s living off of his adjustments against Ole Miss last season as to why he was a great coach.
We said the same thing about his predecessor and half time adjustments.
Baker simply gets outschemed against very good playcallers and is not worth the highest paid DC money he got last year.
This year he remains one of the highest paid and using a basically bought and paid for defense if developed guys at every level except LBer where they were awful yesterday. Keys has not developed at all and seems to be slower and less athletic if you can imagine it.
That goes to Baker.
