re: O-lineman attributes?
Posted by armydude on 12/9/25 at 11:33 am to TigerPlate
There’s obviously more to look for, but these are some factors I feel need to be looked at…
O-Line Talent in High School:
1. Competition. Both in practice and gamedays. If they are not used to blocking decent competition it will take them longer to adjust. Linemen from N. LA tend to adjust much faster than linemen from S. LA. I believe it's because of the competition level in the trenches. Just my observation!
2. Mentality. Linemen have to have a certain dawg mentality. This can't be coached. It's either there or it's not.
3. Be a good teammate (this goes for all).
(I didn't include mechanics. This should be pretty obvious, and the recruit would not be rated if he didnt have the proper mecahnics to play the position)
O-line Talent in College:
1. Does he fit the offensive scheme?
2. Does he dominate their competition at the other school?
3. Is he better than what you have currently?
4. Is he a culture fit?
If yes, come on down.

I hope they win out. This team is closer than people think. Nobody expected them to do anything this year. The offense had to find an identity with a new coach & starting QB. The defense is playing very well considering the new pieces in the secondary.
More than anything, this team needs to learn how to WIN. As they say, "culture over everything", and a winning culture solves ALL.
Anybody that is hoping for them to tank, or lose out does not know ball.

I’m talking about the guy that broke the Duke freshman rushing record, and who was an instrumental piece in his team winning the ACC title.
He’s slightly better than Berry.
1A: Sheppard
1B: Berry
Given the data we have there is literally nothing you can point to to prove this otherwise.

The “not even close” trope is silly. Sheppard looks good (not great) running against the likes of Uconn and Wake Forest. Berry got bullshite time in a bullshite offense in the SEC and stood out. He’s the better player if you had to compare.
Now we want to compare competition?
Last year I said Sheppard was better because of the numbers he was putting up against 5A competition versus the numbers Berry put up against 1A competition…nobody wanted to hear it. Everybody said it was irrelevant. You think I want to hear your BS? lol!
His vision and patience are the two things that stood out the most in HS. What’s standing out now that he’s at Duke is his burst.

Yup. That was a pretty big mental error.
I do think Nate Sheppard and Harlem Berry are very much on the same tier. Harlem is faster. That’s about it. Nate is more of an every down back because he’s really good at pass blocking and catching out the backfield.
Harlem will now feast in the new Kiffin offense. I’m looking forward to that! He didnt get too much action out the backfield this year, but he showed he belongs at RB1.

Brotha! The only reason I’ve been on board with Sheppard is because I watched him play from 10-12 grade. Yes, Lester was the first on here to say something, but we’ve been knowing for quite a while what Nate was all about. He was different. He was the best player on the field each week and it wasn’t really close. Especially his Junior and Senior years.

This time last year I was getting drug to hell and back for trying to even compare Berry and Sheppard.
Love to see it!

re: So how long before Lane is posting on tRant?

He’s probably been here for years.

Didn’t a lot of people on here want LSU to recruit Sheppard last year because he was really underrated? They were right apparently.
Lester was the guy banging the Sheppard drum the most.
I got skull drug on here for opining that Sheppard was better than Berry. Although I love Berry, I still think Sheppard is the better all around RB.

The Heaux is Heauxm
This is officially the most unforgettable coaching change in LSU history.

Perhaps the most unforgettable in college football history.
Although LSU football will forever be the villain, I’ll gladly take it.

LSU wants to bomb the Iron Bowl

LSU wants to make the splash during the Iron Bowl.
If Lane chooses the good guys we will get an influx of interest from top talent, both in the TP and high school. They all know the NIL money involved.

I agree. “When you hire Kiffin you know what you’re gettin”
re: I’ll say it again, with 100% certainty, Lane Kiffin will be the next Head Coach at LSU

How are you so confident?
re: Kiffin dragging this out is what I was worried about…

Hahaha I don’t want it to end. This shite is fun!
I still don’t trust Ole Miss.

It’s not a melt. It’s a concern because we’re dealing with Ole Miss.
I still think he comes to LSU. However, Ole Miss would do anything to screw LSU over. This can’t be overlooked.

Not sure what to expect p, honestly. This is the Wild Wild West right now.
