Never seen it, the premise seems good but I can’t decide.

Yes or no?

I had trouble liking the story, but it is very well made, as you would expect from Mel.

Yes. But it's not for the timid.

Depends on your definition of “good movie” is.

Is it a cinematic marvel? No.

But it’s well done and easily re-watchable.

Way too much dialog for my liking.

In my top 20, I think it’s borderline masterpiece and just a wonderful example of filmmaking

Always makes me wonder how the film and Gibson’s career would be viewed if he didn’t frick up.

Watched it in college with my roommates. Was a fun movie the first time.

Not much replay value though. In my opinion

Ummm, this is often overstated, but I’d truly declare it an epic masterpiece. A truly, truly perfect film where it can’t be improved. Unless you’re exceptionally squeamish, watch it immediately.

I think it’d just make my Top 20, but I disagree with you on it being borderline. It is an outright masterpiece. There is nothing I could change to the film to make it better. It’s a Top 50 film ever made. I can not recommend Apocalypto high enough.

By the way, what a hell of a year that was 2006. Pretty indisputably the strongest year for film in the 21st century. The Oscars that year on the other hand are a fricking joke from how incredible that year was and they only nominated the worst film of that year for best picture which also won. These would be the obvious nominees (three of which are in my Top 20 films ever, two being in the Top 10) and what should have been the winner being bolded.

Apocalypto
Children of Men
Pan’s Labyrinth
The Prestige
The Departed

EDIT: To put it in perspective, I’d say Pan’s Labyrinth is my favorite film of all time, Lord of the Rings is #2, and Children of Men is #3. I’d probably put Apocalypto at #19 of all time thinking it through. All incredible movies and watch them all ASAP. Hell of a year 2006 was to get three out of my Top 20.
