A Louisiana couple lost in the Coral Sea in 1998 after a scuba vessel left them behind. It’s mind-blowing that this could happen, even if it was almost 30 years ago. I couldn’t imagine what would go through my mind if I was all alone, Cast Away style, with nothing but water around me.

Open Water. I watched the movie many years ago. Pretty horrifying.

I watched the movie, knew it was based on a true story. Scary shite for sure.

Yeah, I’ve seen this, it’s awful. What weird is wouldn’t a shark have eaten the wet suit too?

Two of his other brothers played O-Line at LSU, both are/were dentists in NO/Metry. Tom's nephew (Pat's son) was PJ Longergan.

Completely horrific story. I believe the family tried to sue the movie studio from releasing the movie but were unsuccessful.

I recently went down this rabbit hole about a month ago. Some people think it was a joint suicide but I think it was just gross negligence by the dive operator. Either way, what a horrible way to go. I’d rather just drown myself and get it over with.

they probably did drown due to weakness from exposure and dehydration. There’s no way they did this on purpose that would be a miserable way to die

We were diving on the liberty ship out of Destin. When I surfaced I was disoriented and instead of facing the boat I was turned 180 in the opposite direction. About 5 seconds of stark terror until I turned all the way back around and saw it.

Most out of left field random full frontal nudity in a movie ever.

Tommy was a great guy and not suicidal. He had just met the love of his life and was getting ready to start his career as a chemical engineer.

I knew Tom in AFROTC at LSU and my wife had chem-e classes with him.

We refuse to watch the movie because we knew him.

Such a sad situation.

I was snorkeling off Aruba once and got caught in a rip tide.

Mrs Füt was more towards shore and didn’t experience it.

I really had to get my shite together to get back to calmer water.

To this day, she doesn’t know anything happened.

fricking scary-ful.

Yeah the basis of the movie Open Water.

That boob scene was weirdly hotter than it should have been.

I cant imagine. Might be a soft thing to admit, but not long ago got my bass boat caught pretty bad on a stump and couldn't free so decided to jump in the lake to...had trouble getting back in the boat and instantly felt a sense of dread.... in a bass lake. I cant imagine being in the open ocean
