I am headed to BR for my bachelor party with 16 guys. We all went to a college without a football team so we’re adopting LSU and are absolutely amped. We’ve got a bus driving us from New Orleans, and wanted to run a couple of questions by this group as you all seem helpful.

Are the preset Revelry Tailgates worth it? Seems like all out of towners, but we don’t want to be stuck without a home base with such a large group. I would love to just wander around and experience the atmosphere but recognize that 16 guys can’t just be assumed by a tailgate (even with our own drinks, some money, and that famed southern hospitality).

What time should we get there? We were thinking 12:00 for a 6:30 game, but should we come earlier?

Is it worth it to swing by chimes or another bar early in the day?

Are there any must do’s around campus we should do while we are there? Will only be getting in Saturday during the day and leaving after the game at night.

TLDR: Headed to BR for my bachelor party with 16 guys (bus from NOLA) and adopting LSU—wondering if Revelry tailgates are worth it, what time we should arrive for a 6:30 game, if Chimes is worth a stop, and any must-dos on campus since we’ll only be there Saturday.

Thank you and GEAUX TIGERS

We are doing a work trip with about the same number of people. We are planning on being out there about 1 or so Central time.

Absolutely

Check out Mike the Tiger's habitat (you can actually google that and it will give you an address). Plan on doing that around 5:30. The band comes down the hill to the habitat, they come down the hill an hour before kickoff. That is where you will want to be. That is the road between the PMAC and Tiger Stadium.

Are they worth it in what sense? They are what you make of it. If you have the money for it, it'll be as fun as any tailgate you setup for yourself plus you won't have the setup or takedown stress. If its really not in the budget and yall force it, you will feel like its not worth the money no matter what happens. The area around you will be a little more subdued than the parade grounds given that it'll be corporate types rather than frat bros.

BTW, I am not saying you should pay for the tailgate thing, you will have a great time regardless but if yall have scratch like that and want an easy home base, its not a terrible idea.

Well September in Baton Rouge is a lot like August in Baton Rouge, it's gonna be 100° and feel like you're covered in a wet wool blanket. So I wouldn't be out there at noon if you don't have a "spot". Get there around 3 or so, and just mingle. Start around Tiger Park and Alex Box. More of an older tailgating crowd, but you will be treated great. Just don't overdo it. The real party is inside, because there is NOTHING like a Saturday night in The Real Death Valley against a rival. Enjoy and welcome aboard. We are assholes on the Rant, but for the most part, the best people in the world in person. FOREVER LSU!!

Since you have a bus driving you, 3pm *might* be ok, but I would advise getting there earlier, like Noon or 1pm to get the full experience. Just hydrate a few days before and the morning of.

The pre-made tailgate sounds like a great option for your situation.

However, even with 16 people, if you are friendly, people will welcome you into their tailgate. People usually have shite tons of food and drink to share.

You can always chill in the basketball arena (Pete Maravich Assembly Center aka PMAC) before the game (air conditioned and there are concesssions, the band plays beforehand, etc)....its right next to Tiger Stadium. It usually opens at least 4 hours before kickoff and is a great option for the hot months. The Golden Band from Tigerland will march down Victory Hill, right in front of the PMAC about 1.5/2 hrs before kickoff. Its quite the spectacle to see.

Good luck!

Getting there at 3, like the moron above suggested, would be doing your entire group a huge disservice. Even getting there at noon is pushing it. If you want the absolute full experience, arrive by 9 at the latest.

If Chimes interest you, start your day there. If you ask me, dont set up your own tailgate. Leave Chimes and begin walking around. People will point you in the right direction for everything you should see/do. Have drinks with your group and you may even be fed. You have Chimes if you start the day there though.

Getting there too late, and even noon is pushing it, you will remove the ability to get the full experience.

Can't give you anything on this, but depending on the price, having a home base is not a bad idea at all.

You'll certainly get feed and given alcohol if you walk around campus. I'd recommend even wearing your own school colors/appearal - LSU fans love to feed out of towners. While 16 is a lot, you could break up into smaller groups to infiltrate some tailgates

Get there as early as you can. Given it's your first time, I would try and get there around 9/10, walk around campus, see Mike's habitat, etc., then give yourself time to see the band and team come down Victory Hill (usually around 4-4:30).

Yes.

This link is what LSU puts out prior to every game. This is the game note for the Nichols game last year that was a 6:30 kick, so it should give you an idea of when things happen - i.e. Victory Hill at 4:15.

Go see Mike, walk around campus, go to the parade grounds and see how the fraternities tailgate, and really just take it all in. Special environment.

Getting there before noon without a place to go is crazy in September. Do you know how hot it's gonna be?? All day is great if you're in your own spot with shade and seating. But walking around from 9 am until TGBFTL comes down the hill in that heat is insane. But I've only been doing this since the mid 80s, so what do I know??

I’d recommend all of you wear attire of whatever college you went to plus maybe an LSU hat
Easy conversation starter and invitation to food and drinks

You’re 75 so that explains why you think they should only tailgate for 2 hours because it’s going to be hot.

Getting there at 3 they’d basically have a few drinks and go into the stadium. They could do that anywhere in the country. The full LSU experience includes the heat. Get there as early as possible.

Exactly. You are explaining what you would do as a clearly older person who has been to a game many many times. You know where everything is, you've experienced everything there is to experience.

Thats not good advice to give to a group of guys making their first trip to an LSU game. You are trying to give not nearly enough time to experience half of it. Maybe it will be hot, but I doubt they will care one bit about the weather.

You probably pull into your parking spot 2 hours before the game, and are gone by half time, yet brag about going to the game on Facebook.

I haven't been on Facebook in over 3 years, and I've NEVER, not once, left a game early. I still think 3 hours of tailgating in the middle of a Louisiana September, is plenty. Again, no shade, no seats, and there is 16 of them, too many for the good folks to accommodate. We disagree and that's fine, I hope the OP comes back and tells us how it was. My MAIN point is to not get burnt out BEFORE the game. Remember this is the Florida game. The main attraction is the game. But that's just my 2 cents.

Some good advice in here about getting there early.

Leave NO by 930 and go straight to Chimes at 11. Eat well and relax. By 1, start walking around. Go down Highland and then Dalrymple to see the fraternities. Then hit the parade grounds and areas around it. Ive been to the corporate tailgates before and its just not worth it. Far too uptight and generic. Dont even visit that area. Well, maybe go to the train tracks close to them to see some raunchiness. Do bring alcohol so that you have something to start walking around with.

And pace yourself! You dont want to pass out in the 2nd quarter like so many rookies do!

No later than noonish.

Depends on what you want. You absolutely would be able to home base out of there but it is a waste of time and money if you are planning on staying mobile and cruising other tailgates and such.
