Getting a ruger American .308 from a buddy. He’s keeping the scope. I’d like to stay under $500. Longest shot at my place would be 200 yards but sometimes get invited to a buddy’s place with 300+ yard shots.
Vortex seems to have pretty good prices but I’m open to anything. I’m pretty ignorant when it comes to scopes.

For your price range, check out Sig scopes. I've got two and love them

I have a Vortex eagle on my .308. Love it. Easy to acquire target and easy to set up.

...... I don't think you're getting either one of those for under $500. I'm not a vortex fan but their marketing team is damn good. Arken, maven, maybe a Leupold vxfreedom would end up in that range

There you go.

I’m not sure what maven has for scopes but I’ve heard good things on their binos. If I’m looking for a good scope and not breaking the bank I look at Leopold: Meopta. Some of the Zeiss Z3 stuff used to be decent and more affordable but I’m not sure any of it is around $500 or ever was outside of the terra line.

I wouldn’t touch a vortex product outside of their razor line if you gave it to me.

For the money a Burris Fullfield II. Good glass and an outstanding warranty also well below $500.

How about Meopta? Can find the thread on here from a few weeks ago. I have one on my Winchester. They are fantastic for the money.

I’d go with the Leupold.

I put one on the wife’s .308 and it’s been a very good scope.

My.308 has a Vortex and the dials are mushy. It’s okay but I wouldn’t buy another one.

I just put a Trijicon accupoint on a 308. I like it so far. I’m still torn on the illumination. I have only shot it mid day. I will know more when I actually hunt with it. The accupoint is a little out of your range. I would not hesitate to go with the Huron. I believe it’s the same scope minus illumination.

Since we’re not chasing sheep in British Columbia, I recommend the Burris Fullfield E1 3x9x40mm.

Seriously. Don't scrimp on optics. You'll regret it.

Go with a Leupold VX-3HD 4.5-14x40mm Riflescope with Boone and Crockett reticule. It has the hold over points for longer distances. It's $693 on Amazon. So spend the extra $200 and enjoy the 14.5 - 14 magnification and lifetime quality of the Leupold.

Well I have Vortex Crossfire II 3x9, and it is very good. Very bright image, great eye relief, and I can hit what I aim at.

Glad you got a good one. Vortex will never get a penny from me.
