What part of Panola county? I have a really good friend that lives in Courtland. I went up to visit him during thanksgiving. When I go we hunt off Eureka rd and we also hunt off Fowler rd.
That’s south of us a bit. My farm is closer to 6 near Mt Olivent and Cotton Plant.

54deg. NE wind Sun just popped out and it’s beautiful.
Haven’t seen squat last two times I’ve hunted this stand, which is unusual. This one almost always has a couple of does hanging around.
Wife shot a nice 8 point out of it last week.
Won’t wait too much longer. Have Christmas office dinner to cook and some limbs to saw. Might train our bird dogs too.

Yokohama Geolanders here.
Have them on two of my vehicles and been happy with them.
Wife has Toyos on her 2500 and they’ve been pretty good too.

I booked in Batesville. Have stayed in Batesville before and it is not a bad trip, short trek down the interstate, and going back the right way!
Wife and I live on a farm off Hwy 6 in Batesville. There are a few of us Tiger fans around.
Recommend the Kennel Club right there in Batesville. It’s not South La food, but they at least try to serve good seafood.

You’re essentially developing a high school QB when a more proven and accomplished college level QB will be available is the issue
This. I’m hoping Kiffen brings in a stabilizing, mature transfer QB who can play within the team and minimize turnovers. Develop a decent running game to compliment that with a great defense and we should be back in the hunt for the playoffs.
Now, if Underwood would come here and be willing to sit a year to be developed…..but we all know kids these days don’t do that.
re: Bama fans losing mind over their head coach again
Posted by CatSquirrel on 12/7/25 at 7:20 am to Demps
The two most entitled fanbases in the SEC are Bama and Texas.
I’ll give props to Bama, they win, but I travel to T-town on business on occasion and I’ve just gotten to the point where I don’t discuss football anymore. The entitlement and arrogance is over the top.
Texas is the same, but without the results.
If both teams lost every single game from here on out, I think those fanbases would commit hari-Kari.

I live about 20 miles from Oxford and can attest many Ole Miss fans are unhinged right now.
It’s tragically comical.

I have a tx-22. Haven’t had it all that long but I’ve yet to make it through a single mag with out some type of jam.
Break down the magazines and clean them thoroughly. I did that with my TX22 and it vastly improved performance.
Having said that, as I’m sure you know, no .22 is as reliable as a center fire caliber.
re: In the market for a new waterfowl shotgun. What do you like?
Posted by CatSquirrel on 9/15/25 at 3:49 pm to bbvdd
For me it is the first Beretta that I’ve ever held that I found clunky. And it seemed heavier than an A300.
I just didn’t care for it, which is very atypical for me since I’ve had a love affair with Berettas since the late 70’s.
I’m sure it’s a fine gun….for someone else.

As has been said, go to a store and swing a few.
My favorite has always been an A300. To me it feels better than an A 400 (clunky and heavy).
Browning Maxus 2’s are really nice guns. My wife has one I got her a couple years ago that I grabbed and went in the yard to shoot a couple doves the other day. It fits me as well as my A300 and I really like it. I’d probably get one if I wanted another shotgun.
I really don’t see the need for a 3.5” gun these days. With the advent of bismuth shells, it’s really unnecessary to shoot 3.5” shells anyway.

The best day of my professional career was the day I took a job where I didn’t have to drive through or work in that shithole.
I used to have to work with several of the politicians in Memphis on various projects, and it wore me out. The amount of graft and corruption was laughable.
The only reason those frickers are crying is they somehow can’t graft their way into more cash. They long ago stopped caring about their constituency.
Memphis gets everything it deserves.

Glad you had a good hunt.
We didn’t do so well as that little cool front pushed our birds.
But had a great time anyway. Our 13 1/2 year old Lab probably made his last hunt so it was about him today.

Maybe I’m just getting pickier about food and service as I get older, but except for an occasional chicken sandwich (perhaps 1 a year), I see no reason to darken Popeyes’ door.
The food is high as giraffe pussy and the service is lousy at every location I’ve stopped at.
Domino’s isn't any better.

I’d go with the Leupold.
I put one on the wife’s .308 and it’s been a very good scope.
My.308 has a Vortex and the dials are mushy. It’s okay but I wouldn’t buy another one.

My step-son went through a phase where he wanted gauges.
I told him I’d stand him in the corner and hang clothes hangers off his ear lobes.

re: Advice/tips for training a dog to track deer?
Posted by CatSquirrel on 8/17/25 at 2:28 pm to bradygolf98
I’ve trained a lot of dogs, but never a blood dog.
But, I had a friend who told me he saved a couple jars of blood and the hide from every deer he or his son killed.
He put some of the blood in a squirt bottle and would tie the hide to a piece of rope.
Wear rubber boots and drag the hide with occasional dribbles of blood.
He would put a big bowl of food at the end of the trail.
Start with shorter trails at first until the dog gets the idea, then gradually start putting some distance and cover changes, creek crossings, etc. into your trails.

I’d just get an A300 in 20 ga.
I’m a huge Beretta fan, and I wanted an A400 badly, so I borrowed one to shoot pigeons at a friend’s farm.
I found it heavy and clunky. Just not for me. Every Beretta I’ve ever shot has fit me like a glove with minimal adjustments. Not that one.
Can’t comment much on Benellis. I’ve shot a 20ga. Montefeltro that pointed well and was nice.
But I’d still go with an A300.
